Merry Christmas, too! Belatedly! Since, you know. That's how I do things. XD

SPEAKING OF BELATED...

1. HIBARI, INCOMING!! That is the actual, literal title of this chapter! AND THE COVER PAGE IS HIBARI LEAPING TO THE GROUND FROM A HELICOPTER AND ADELHEID SHOUTING "HIBARI KYOYA!!" AS HE LANDS. Because Hibari's life is an action movie. AND HE DRINKS HIS MARTINIS SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED.

Now, then, before we get to anything else, I would just like to take a moment to clarify that I bear absolutely no grudge against Hibari Kyoya. I think he is hilarious, and also pretty damn sexy, and I really like to say his full name because idk, it's fun to say. That said, I am absolutely rooting for Adelheid to win this fight for several reasons: One, because it's Adelheid; two, because so far the Vongola have done a terrible job of being the underdogs in this conflict (HOW DARE THEY WIN OR TIE ALL OF THEIR BATTLES SO FAR, THOSE COMPETENT BASTARDS); and three, because the idea of Hibari in chains may or may not get me a little hot and bothered unf.

However, please do not take my rooting against him in this battle to be a sign of hate or dislike toward him! JUST TO BE CLEAR ON THAT. I don't really hate any of the characters in KHR, even the ones that need to die horrible deaths by falling off cliffs into seas of burning lava and scissors. That said, Spade, if such a fate were to befall you I would not be weeping any tears or anything, I'm just saying.

2. Anyway, I've digressed long enough, so let's get back to the important things in life, like Kusakabe giving a thumbs up while wearing sunglasses. Kusakabe my man, you don't even know it yet, but you are already as good as iconned. That pose is just too fantastic to pass up. When I look at it I swear I can hear Top Gun music playing in the background.

I wonder why after all this time, Reborn is still the only one that speaks Hibari. I thought it was pretty obvious he was referring to Enma, but then again, these are the Vongola we're talking about. When Tsuna finally does become boss he's going to have to hire a full-time exposition guy to stand in the background all the time and help him out.

3. OH NO HE DIDN'T oh snap someone's talking trash now! Adelheid, girl, are you going to stand for that? Hell no! IT'S PRIDE-STAKING TIME, OH MAN I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT ADELHEID'S PRIDE IS THIS IS GONNA BE SWE--

--OH, FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Jesus Christ, EVERY FEMALE CHARACTER, seriously?!

At least she didn't mention cooking too.

4. Lol, Hibari's pride, on the other hand, was arguably even easier to guess than Gokudera's. XD And speaking of Gokudera, POT, KETTLE, Mr. "I KNEW IT WOULD DEFINITELY COME TO THIS!!"

Oh ho ho something tells me this battle is going to get kind of physical. 8D HEY HIBARI, I KNOW IT'S AWFULLY HYPOCRITICAL OF ME TO GRUMBLE ABOUT THE TREATMENT OF FEMALE CHARACTERS IN ONE PARAGRAPH AND THEN MAKE OBJECTIFYING REMARKS ABOUT THEM IN THE NEXT, but seeing as I'm nothing if not a hypocrite, I'll say it anyway: I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOU RIGHT NOW.

5. To repeat: SO. JEALOUS.

Also, yay Glacier flames. We've known about the ice attribute for a long time now, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm super-psyched to finally see it in action. |D

BY THE WAY, AGENT 0018, MY GIRL ADELHEID DOESN'T EVEN NEED A HELICOPTER TO FLY SINCE SHE APPARENTLY BORROWED HER SUPERPOWERS FROM MR. INCREDIBLE'S BESTEST BUD FROZONE PLAYED BY SAMUEL L. JACKSON. WHAT UP. So far this chapter is delighting the 12-year-old boy in me.

6. Yeah, so normally these action panels bore me like whoa, but damned if this isn't one of the coolest fucking things I've ever seen. Gokudera's response here is absolutely correct and appropriate. Also loling at Reborn's casual mention of the fact that she is not-so-secretly the real power behind the Simon throne (at least when Daemon's not creeping around being his intolerable self).

And is it just me or does Hibari seem a little annoyed at the fact that Enma and to a lesser extent Gokudera have been hogging all the shippable Tsuna moments lately? Or at least, such is my explanation for that weird little "WATCH MY FIGHT. *BEDROOM EYES*" moment at the bottom of that page. That, or it's Amano's Christmas gift to us all (in which case she is being extra generous this year because I was satisfied with just the Kusakabe thumbs up).

7. Okay, Hibari? All that awesome stuff Adelheid just did with the arm-blades and the ice surfing and whatnot? YOU AND YOUR ADORABLE HEDGEHOG JUST UNDID ALL OF THAT.

Well, this landslide of giant spike-boulders and panel of blatantly exposed cleavage sort of makes up for it, but just barely.

8. Hey now, this is an interesting segue. Nametwin and Zombie!Chrome make their triumphant return by spying on the goings-on and making very nearly meta observations about the plot! For a moment I confess that I almost got excited because it looked like Chrome was pointing to Gokudera (IT DID, I SWEAR TO GOD), and I was like, "HAHA THERE'S NO WAY THAT'S CORRECT BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE IF IT WERE TRUE!" and I had all these fanciful thoughts about Gokudera as the final villain and wasted a couple minutes of my life giggling about it before I finally scrolled down and saw that she was actually pointing at Tsuna. Which I SUPPOSE makes more logical sense but you have to admit it's not nearly as fun. :/

Anyway, back on track, it appears that yet another character is outraged that Tsuna would dare to have Primo as a great-grandfather (or whatever). Spade, it's a testament to your dickishness that you can be that fucking hot and yet still make me dislike you as much as I do.

9. Seriously, this guy is pretty much just evil incarnate! It's amazing! He has no redeeming qualities whatsoever! Aside from his incredible attractiveness!!

--BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY HIBARI IS ABOUT TO GET HIS VONGOLA GEAR ON OMG OMG. DON'T LET US DOWN!

10. ...

...Okay, so. Whatever the opposite of a letdown is. Yeah. THIS IS THAT.

I mean, seriously. HIS VONGOLA GEAR IS AN UPGRADED NAMIMORI UNIFORM AND HIBIRD HAS A POMPADOUR JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES. Sometimes Amano swings hard and misses bad, but this time? This is sheer perfection, and I mean that without the slightest bit of facetiousness. HOME RUN, LADIES AND GENTS. Perfect way to wrap up another year of KHR that I for one have by and large enjoyed, even if this arc has proven less than popular with a lot of other readers.

So yeah, 2010 has given us Enma, Adelheid, Shitt P, Coyote Nougat, the terrifying-yet-bizarrely-tantalizing combo of Yamamoto and Byakuran, and let us not forget, that one chapter where the characters all dressed up like vegetables, even if it was for Kaoru's benefit and fuck that guy. HERE'S TO ANOTHER HAPPY YEAR OF FANGIRLING. /o/

As for me, the image of Hibird with a pompadour is enough to make this chapter SO MUCH WIN. AHHH NOT TO MENTION, ROLL! idk... Hibari's pets are undeniably adorable. *0*

I think Hibari turned a tad WAY too OOC at that part where he ...I don't know WHATed to cute little Roll to calm it down. And the whole flirting with Tsuna thing...that kinda scarred me. (Christmas present for the 1827 fans, I suppose.)
I hate Daemon so much, and I hate Chrome for sucking so bad and becoming his little pawn. GRAWH HOW COULD SHE. It's like, all the females in this manga have a weakness: Lal has Colonello and her Arcobaleno problem, Bianchi...I don't know, grew old or something. Adelheid obsesses over her family. Kyoko and Haru...pretty useless. Chrome is generally weak and fanservicey. My hope rests on I-pin (and even that is dwindling.)

Yeah, between Hibird's pomp and Kusakabe's unmitigated awesome, this chapter was rocking it. I think this is a sign that pompadours are going to be really big in 2011. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! Heh, and I agree about Hibari's pets. All the Reborn animals are adorable, really, but his just seem to have an extra element of fluffiness to them. In spite of one of them having feathers and the other one being a hedgehog. XD

I honestly still have yet to get a firm grasp of Hibari's character so I find it hard to judge what's OOC and what's not. XD HE IS AN ENIGMA WRAPPED IN A NAMIMORI SCHOOL UNIFORM WRAPPED IN AN ENIGMA, so when he's all :| one moment and "don't be scared, Roll. *eyelash flutter*" the next, I'm just like, "Sure, okay." XD

Aww, I don't hate Chrome for what happened, though. I'm just annoyed that it had to be her that got zombified for the sake of the plot, while of course the boys are all out there not getting kidnapped and winning all their fights. (I guess that's reason number four I'm rooting for Adelheid, come to think. Ladies gotta represent.) And yeah, almost all of the girls have something, although I don't really think of Adelheid's thing as a weakness, and in Bianchi's case I think her only weakness is the fact that Amano keeps writing her out of the plot for no reason, despite the fact that since she kind of kicks ass you'd think the Vongola would be smart enough to take advantage of her abilities more and have her fight alongside them the way she did in the Kokuyou Arc (and never since :/).

I mean, yeah, it's shounen manga, but I don't think one strong female character is too much to ask, seriously. ADELHEID PLEASE BE THAT ONE, WE'RE ALL COUNTING ON YOU HERE. *fingers crossed* At least Shitt P finished out her career relatively untainted.

Okay, I lol'd when I saw what Adelheid's pride was. Since she seems to be the mom-figure of the family, I can see why she'd probably be OCD about cleanliness...but now I have this image of her running around the Simon house, combing all the carpet fringe with a toothbrush and chasing after everyone with a bottle of hand sanitizer.

I've never found Hibari particularly attractive, but damn he looks hot in that final panel. And I DIED when I saw Hibird's little pomp; the rockabilly fan in me heartily approves \m/

I also have like ridiculously high expectations for this fight, second only to Gokudera v. Shitt P. I'm rooting for Adelheid to win because I think it serves the plot better, but I'm looking forward to some ass-kicking on both sides. And with all the heaving cleavage and hand-to-hand combat and possible use of handcuffs (depending on what Hibari's VG turns out to be), this is probably the closest we'll ever get to having het in this series XD

Kusakabe's thumbs up really was all I needed to make this a bamftastic chapter (the sunglasses and reed thing sticking out of his mouth just made it that much more awesome).

Personally, I found Hibari's face while he was in free fall, talking to his hedgehog, practically even more creepy than Daemon Spade, but really, it actually just does not get any more creeptastic than Daemon Spade. Falling off a cliff into seas of burning lava and scissors, while an amazing image, is simply too good for him.

I also cannot find Hibari's coat anything other than completely ridiculous (I tried, really), but Hibird's pompadour may just be the greatest thing since Kusakabe's thumbs up. That little bit of extra crazy randomness that makes KHR what it is, and keeps us coming back for more. Or something.

I actually don't think his face was super-hot in that last panel (though page 10 knocked it out of the park. Not sure why I keep using baseball metaphors, incidentally... maybe it's Yama withdrawal kicking in again), but that outfit is fantastic. I think secretly Hibari is just trying to upgrade the Namimori uniform to look more like the Simon uniform without actually giving in and admitting that the Simon uniform is better in every way. So he went the sneaky route. XD AND HIBIRD'S POMP IS BEAUTIFUL. You know, not everyone can pull that look off, but he nailed it.

Heh, agreed about the fight, too. (Though for me it's third, because I'm looking forward to Yama's fight WHENEVER AND HOWEVER THAT MAY BE even more than I was anticipating Gokudera's. *_*) The idea of Hibari fighting someone that may actually present a challenge to him is awesome enough, but the fact that Adelheid is that person? It's been a long, long time since there were even hints of 1827 hints in the series, so yeah, they're probably feeling pretty gratified right now. I don't ship it in the slightest, myself, and even I was like, "WHOA HE IS TOTALLY MAKING A MOVE ON." Hibari you slick, slick devil you.

The hedgehog was amazingly cute. I wonder when the merchandising people are finally going to get wise and slap the box animals onto all sorts of notebooks and binders and mugs and crap Hello Kitty-style. They'd fly off the shelves!

And yeah, I must say, the man can certainly rock a trenchcoat. I hope he makes this uniform change mandatory for all Namimori students after this. Spread the love, Hibari. Spread the love.

This chapter did seem to have a higher cuteness factor than most. Although for me, the combination of adorable and absurd seems to crack me up twice as much, heh. Here's hoping the next chapter continues this trend.

Yeah, Kusakabe and pomp!Hibird were little Christmas miracles. It's wacky, hilarious touches like those that make this manga my favorite.

And Hibari's falling-off-cliff face was kind of creepy-looking, I guess, but I was too busy laughing to notice much. XD And I'll probably do the same if by some miracle I ever get to see Spade's falling-off-cliff face. I like to think that the image would make up for lack of appropriately vindictive judgment.

BUT IT'S A TRENCHCOAT, IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK RIDICULOUS~~...ly AWESOME~~. But yes, as previously stated, Hibird's pompadour is the greatest thing than the last thing I said was the greatest thing. Haha, actually I don't know a thing about cocktails either (can't stand the taste of alcohol) but I read an article about it a few days back where it was mentioned that mixes are only supposed to be shaken when there's cream or fruit (and... something else, but I forgot) in it. All the others (martinis included) are supposed to be stirred; when shaking the ice in the mix gets grouned down too much and it makes it watery and dilutes the taste. So apparently 007 is not enough of a man to drink his martinis the way they're supposed to be drunk! (It is 'drunk', right? Sometimes I get my grammar all mixed up.)

Iris' boobs were definitely not natural! When watching that fight I just sort of stared at the screen and they seemed to change size every time the camera cut to her. It was... surreal.

... since it's Adelheid, I'll make an exception. *full girlcrush mode on XD* In Adel's defence, I don't think the "pursuit of cleanliness" is quite referring to what you think it's referring to... especially because, in the translation of the chapter that I first read (I think it was the Binktopia version?), she called her pride something more along the lines of "the desire to purge". I only noticed the difference because, earlier on in the arc, Adelheid made some reference to wanting to "purge" Hibari and his Disciplinary from Namimori Middle School. I kind of took that to mean that "purging" was kind of like Adelheid's version of "biting to death". So, like, she pursues cleanliness, sure... as long as by "cleanliness" you mean "a state in which everyone has suffered a sufficient amount of asskicking". You can't really BLAME him/her? for acting adorable when he/she was confronted by THAT FACE, which to me is a more come-to-bed look than that 1827 moment, what with Hibari's hair flying back in the wind and what seems to be a SMILE actually gracing his face, haha. Makes even Roll blush and let out a random squealing noise. Maybe someone can start shipping Hibari/Roll after this X] (wouldn't be the strangest pairing out there . . .)

It WAS rather obvious, right? Enforcing his committee's rules where school is the least of anyone's worries. So typical Hibari that it was almost nostalgic when he said his pride. Amano probably designed Adelheid so we could have the most intense school spirit battle in history, never mind the fact that Shimon Middle isn't real.

Hibari seems a lot more willing to make comments that don't involve "herbivore", "bite", or "death" this chapter . . . although he does call everyone animals (or degenerates if you read on mangareader), which could be a step up from herbivore. Or we've been wrong about Hibari's all-purpose nickname this whole time. Or Hibari went to some sort of group therapy over his break and opened up to the world, which is the most impossible thing in any universe so nevermind.

TOPPING OFF THE YEAR WITH A CANNON HAIR!HIBIRD WAS AWESOME. It's like the idea is so hysterically GENIUS that you can't help but giggle, you know? And sincerely hoping that this is a sign of shiny new Hibird powers :D Maybe he can fire explosive miniature tonfas out of that thing.

These last few chapters have been the most amazing way to end the year... though a Yamamoto and/or Byakuran update would be much loved, too. Sob.

Spade. I love Spade, just because he's such an unrepentant dick, but I hate him, too, for basically the same reason. XD He's kind of like Byakuran to me, except not anywhere near as fabulous! Though I think he wins the award for being a complete creeper, mind.

Tsuna, I have no idea how you're going to be de-BSOD'd, but I really can't wait to see the results. Especially if Iemitsu does, at some point, ACTUALLY SHOW UP. It's kind of important at this point, considering we're debating if he is or isn't the killer of Enma's family. (I would say a murderer, but considering he's head of CEDEF and the "young lion", I would assume yes?)

And just because I needed some lulz today, and I'm not sure if you noticed this or not, BUT: page 03. Bottom right panel. WHAT IS THAT FACE, HIBARI? Especially right after you were so pretty! I think that goes beyond DERP levels!! X_X

Lol, upon further review, that "Piii! ♪" from Roll does seem rather suspect. But then again, the box animals do seem to reflect their owner's personalities, and given that Hibari doesn't have anywhere near the self-esteem issues that, say, Gokudera or Tsuna have (the opposite, really), I guess it's not a surprise that he and his box animal get along well.

Still keeping my fingers crossed that in addition to badassness (since that's pretty much a given), we'll also get random character development in the next chapter, like what happened with Lambo. Spade is a lot like Byakuran, I agree. I've wondered about this, actually, specifically about why Spade gives me such a GO DIE NOW vibe even though Byakuran is one of my favorite characters. I think it's partly because Spade is far creepier/intimate with his dickishness (if Byakuran kidnapped a main character and started making incredibly unsettling passes at them, I'd be way more put off by him too), and partly because at least Byakuran turned out to have a legitimate reason for being off-his-fucking-rocker crazy. INFINITE WORLDS IN HIS HEAD AND BELIEVING THE UNIVERSE IS ALL ONE BIG JOKE AND ALL THAT. Whereas Spade so far just seems to be screwing people over for the hell of it (or to go by the canon reason, because he felt like Giotto wasn't being mean enough. Which, you know, is almost worse XD). Now if he stopped badtouching people and invading their minds, I might enjoy his presence more. HINT HINT, AMANO. Then again, it almost seems like she wants us to hate him and feel uncomfortable when he's around, so maybe it's all part of her plan idk.

I have my doubts that Iemitsu is actually going to show up, but then again, it's hard to think of many other ways that this whole soap opera might actually be resolved, so who knows? I do like that he's an ambiguous character that there is actually some reasonable doubt about whether he'd be capable of purposely killing a rival family's boss (as I assume Enma's father or mother was before him). I mean, that blood didn't just flood itself, so. SOMETHING happened, clearly.

And haha, I did notice that face but declined to mention it (due to the fact that the review was reaching essay-lengths as it was XD), but yeah, that cracked me up. "YOU CAN NEVER BITE ME TO DEATH. ...DEEEEEEEEERP |D" I was like, what... the... XD Heh, only in this manga.

Like I said in a comment above, I'm almost surprised that Spade repels me as much as he does, given that I'm so fond of his fellow troll Byakuran. Basically what it boils down to is that Spade is infinitely creepier. Given the fact that he's IMO the closest the series has come so far to genuine evil (HE IS NOT A NICE MAN!), I don't really blame Chrome for not being able to do anything against him, but I would have liked it if for once it hadn't been the female character that got screwed while the boys went around fighting and rescuing, etc.

Next time if Spade is after Mukuro, he should skip the middleman (...woman) and just go straight for his real target. Then Mukuro would be a damsel in distress, which in addition to not being :|, would also make for an infinitely more amusing scenario. XD

And yeah, since Gokudera's VG unfortunately did away with Sistema C.A.I. (WHYYYYYYYYY... although he did at least have the sunglasses), I have to agree. Pomp!Hibird is automatic win.

And that we all assumed it was Spade, and then--surprise!--Julie is Spade! ...except apparently no one in Simon knows that. So... does that mean that Julie is the informant, or the person who "talks" with said informant? Is there a second informant, this one being the person Aoba was referring to? Why is this so confusing to figure out?! D: But regardless, Spade can go die a horrible death, and I will throw a party. Nevermind that I said the same thing about Byakuran, and then I ended up crying when he died. *cough*

I AM WAITING TO SEE A SPARK OF LIFE IN YOUR EYES, MINI-BOSS. This "Hibari-san jumped off a cliff and so I am hardwired to act surprised!" does not count, thank you.

I... want Iemitsu to show up. Like Kawahira and Fran (though Fran would be... tiny?), if for different reasons. Namely: there's a lot of issues between Tsuna and his dad, even ignoring the "Iemitsu might have killed Enma's family!" thing. Seemingly abandoning his family for how many years, only to--randomly, and rudely--put his son into a position nearly guaranteed to be a kind of death sentence.... Yeah, Iemitsu. You need to pop up again at some point. And bring Basil with you.

Hahaha, oh Hibari. The fact that you are terrifying to most people (read:Tsuna) will never not be hilarious, especially with a face like that. (And argh, I meant bottom left, but... yes. The entire bottom of P03 as a whole works just as well. Between the hedgehogs and the Pompadour'd Hibirds and his personality, I have no idea what to make of him! Which means lulz, forever and ever.)

Yeah, that is really annoying. People seem to like joining together to make fun of something. I still think Reborn is going strong! I will never tire of KHR! It's seriously the greatest manga ever and I'm hopelessly addicted to it. XD It's basically the main reason why I joined LJ--to interact with other people who love KHR as much as I do!

Oh gosh I can't wait for the next fight~! HIBARI IS FIGHTING! So amazing, and with the last chapter there wasn't any fighting but all his facial expressions....asadfw I was a pile of goo. XD
