I think the real reason I'm addicted to music memes is that they don't require thinking. I can type away even though my brain has totally shut off for the night. |D

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] cleartempest!

Put your iPod, mp3 or other media playing software/device on shuffle. Write down the first ten songs. Post your favourite line from each of these songs. Let people guess (or not) what the songs are. If you google the lyric, do not post the answer. That's cheating!

1. Nine Inch Nails - Only (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] valorously)

I'm becoming less defined as days go by
Fading away, and well you might say
I'm losing focus
Kind of drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself

(Youtube) (DL)

2. Audioslave - One and the Same

You wear a mask with a target
Keep your enemies closer
You fall in love from a great height
Now the easy part's over
Choose your battles, not your soldiers
You're never sure of their colors

(Youtube) (DL)

3. Hanson - When You're Gone

My forehead is still bleeding
From the thorns I used to wear
And I'm left alone and beaten
For this cross I choose to bear

(Youtube) (DL)

4. Death Cab for Cutie - The Sound of Settling (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] cerise_kousai)

Our youth is fleeting
Old age is just around the bend
And I can't wait to go gray

(Youtube) (DL)

5. Third Eye Blind - Good Man

Roots in the soil untangle
Releasing your sweet summer warmth
But still I recoil like mace
And all the little moments I pushed you away
That I can't erase

(Youtube) (DL)

6. Lifehouse - Breathing (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] o_melody_nelson)

I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't want to speak tonight
That's all right, all right with me

(Youtube) (DL)

7. A Perfect Circle - Magdalena (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] sandrock)

I bear witness
To this place, this prayer so long forgotten
So pure, so rare
To witness such an earthly goddess

(Youtube) (DL)

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

It's the edge of the world
And all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East
At least it settles in the final location

(Youtube) (DL)

9. A Perfect Circle - Passive (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] o_melody_nelson)

Leaning over you here
Cold and catatonic
I catch a brief reflection
Of what you could and might have been
It's your right and your ability
To become my perfect enemy

(Youtube) (DL)

10. Coldplay - Amsterdam (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] firecandy89)

You can say what you mean
But it won't change a thing
I'm sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose
But you came along and you cut me loose

(Youtube) (DL)

ETA: Went ahead and named/linked to the rest of the songs, since most of them have been guessed. THANKS FOR PLAYING GUYS. <3

4 - "sound of settling" Death Cab. I love that song.

uhh~ I've probably heard the others, just can't think of the title D8

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
YOU ARE CORRECT. \o/ I love it too, so catchy.

1. "Only" by Nine Inch Nails! (♥ xPI)

aaaand, I know I know a lot of these but my brain just keeps repeating NIN. D:

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
It is indeed!

Haha, it happens. XD

[identity profile] o-melody-nelson.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
6. Breathing by Lifehouse

9. Passive by A Perfect Circle

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Right on both counts! Passive is one of my favorite songs. ♥

[identity profile] o-melody-nelson.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Passive is an awesome track. I think it might actually be the reason I went to see Constantine in theaters.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! Was it in the trailers for Constantine? If I'd seen that, I might have gone to see it in theaters as well.

[identity profile] o-melody-nelson.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was, yeah, and it sort of suited the scene it was used in, atmospherically.

[identity profile] cleartempest.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF I FAIL. 5 and 10 are very familiar though. But I can't think of the name and everything.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it just means your brain's probably wiped out like mine (and you have more reason, too XD). Maybe it'll come to you later?

10: Coldplay - Amsterdam

My friend plays it all the time.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a gorgeous song, one of my favorites. <3

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
7 is Magdalena by A Perfect Circle. You have positively stellar taste in music. :)

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Magdalena is right! One of my favorite APC songs, and the fact that you guessed it says a lot about your taste in music as well. <3

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably close to the top for me as well. I'm a huge APC (and Tool) fan. :) And thank you! It's good to share musical interests~

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed, which is another reason why I love doing music memes. :D Heh, I'm a big APC/Tool fan as well. Maynard has such a great voice.

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to avoid doing them because I don't actually have a lot of music anywhere in particular. My iPod is not full, my iTunes has less than 2GB of music... it's all over the place (iTunes music is largely fsts and video game/anime music, iPod has a lot of rock music and some orchestrated, most of my cds are pop/contemporary/classic rock, etc). I need to get organized~

Maynard does have an amazing voice. And the music is always lyrically intriguing/inspirational. I love it. :3

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah, that would make things kind of difficult. I used to have my music collection split up between two different computers, until it started to drive me nuts. It took forever, but I finally went ahead and copied the MP3s from one over to the other. It's nice to have it in one place now, but it was a pain to initially sort out. XD

Yeah, I love it when music is lyrically and musically interesting enough to make me think. APC and Tool rarely disappoint in that regard.

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm anticipating that right now. I would go ahead and consolidate, but my iPod is a bit old and sort of... ready to be replaced. My computer is probably getting close to that place too. So it seems to make sense (to me) to just wait a bit and then do all that work ONCE when I switch from old iPod to new and old computer to new. I reeeally don't wanna do it twice. Hehe.

Ah yes. *nods* I think that NIN and APC do that in a way that a lot of other groups can't manage and I like them both for that reason (well, that and one of my oldest friends is practically the founder of the Church of Trent Reznor and if I didn't like him...).

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I can understand that. Best to get it all over with at once. XD As long as your iPod's still in good enough shape that it'll last until you're able to transfer the music, anyway; I had a Nano back in 2001 that fitzed out completely--the battery died and it just wouldn't hold a charge anymore, even when it was plugged in--and I lost a lot of good stuff. But the newer iPods are a heck of a lot more stable, so I assume you're good to go.

Yeah, it seems to be a pretty rare quality. I mean, when I'm listening to something like Hurt or 3 Libras, the music kind of hits me on almost a profound level; it's something that's really hard to duplicate. Radiohead is like that as well, but other than that I can't really think of any bands that pull it off consistently.

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! My iPod is probably okay for a while. I don't charge it/use it a lot. Mine is a Mini, so it's a bit older. *nods* I can tell the battery is on its last legs too. And if I lost everything on there, it'd be something like 3GB of music, so it wouldn't be devastating, but I would be displeased.

*nods* I think you're right. I've not heard much Radiohead, actually. I don't know how that happened, but I just never found myself listening to them? I'm very aware of them, of course. Odd.
