These are the best days of our lives
The only thing that matters is just following your heart
And eventually you'll finally get it right
Zany mafia antics aside, the essence of the Daily Life Arc is simply a bunch of teenage kids running around and doing crazy things together. Too young to think of the dangers up ahead; too young to realize how they'll one day look back on these times with nostalgia.
Reborn - The Hitman (Queen) [download]

There goes the neighborhood
Make no mistake, Reborn is one baaaaad mother--(shut your mouth!). He's no-nonsense all the way, and nothing seems to faze him. Don't mess with the best.
Sawada Tsunayoshi - Times Like These (Foo Fighters) [download]

I'm a brand new sky to hang
The stars upon tonight
I, I'm a little divided

And leave it all behind?
If KHR has a heart and soul, Tsuna is at its center. This is a kid who is slowly learning to stop running and face the world, terrifying as it is. Step by step, he's learning how to live.
Gokudera Hayato - Right Before Your Eyes (Hoobastank) [download]
When the door shuts, it shuts finally

The living in fear and the sorrow is done

A lone wolf who's finally found a pack, Gokudera, like Tsuna, is also going through a turnaround of sorts. He's devoted to something now, and in his determination to be worthy of it, he won't let anything hold him back.

Open and carefree, Yamamoto is the type of guy who can be prompted to smile by even the simplest things. He is the quintessential Rain Guardian, ever-reliable and content.
Sasagawa Ryohei - It's My Life (Bon Jovi) [download]

You're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud
It's my life, and it's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just wanna live while I'm alive
If it's possible to put 110% into everything, Ryohei is that possibility. This is the guy who lives with a perpetual dying will. It's all about living life extremely to the fullest!!
Lambo - The Middle (Jimmy Eat World) [download]

It's only in your head you feel left out
Or looked down on
Just try your best
Try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves
When you're away
Lambo can be pretty failtastic at times, but at age five, at least he has an excuse. It's not easy being the youngest guardian, but we know he'll get there eventually--even if he has to wait 10 (or 20) years.
Hibari Kyoya - Defeat You (Smash Mouth) [download]

Equipped with a detector of what's on your mind
You jive, you shuck, you bob, you weave

There's a reason why they call him the strongest guardian. Hibari is the type of person who lives and breathes combat, a force of nature who fights for the sake of it and shows no mercy.
Dino Cavallone - Grenade Jumper (Fall Out Boy) [download]
My heart ticks in beat with these kids that I grew up with
Living like life's going out of style
And you came to watch us play
Like a big shot talent
But at the end of the day
You know where we come from and where we call home
He's not technically Vongola, but as a fellow mafia boss and mentor to Tsuna, in a way Dino is still part of the family. Even as the sometimes-skilled head of one of the strongest mafia families around, he's still down-to-earth and always willing to lend his "little brother" a hand.

Her poison cooking makes her one of the deadliest assassins around, but for all that she terrifies people, Bianchi is a simple romantic at heart. Love is a many-splendored thing, and love is what motivates her above all else.

Shamal's the type who gives "love doctor" a rather different meaning. He's both an assassin and a healer, but he's a player first and foremost; the kind of guy who just can't get over his love for the fairer sex.

Yes, I'm a punky girl
I never say die
No one can stop me
What can you really say about a five-year-old girl who's sweet and adorable and can kill you with her pinky? She's nearsighted, she's shy, and she just happens to be ranked third out of 52,262 people for being a promising assassin. Cute and deadly.
Colonnello - Combat Baby (Metric) [download]
Combat baby, come back baby
Fight off the lethargy
Don't go quietly
Combat baby
Said you would never give up easy
To be an Arcobaleno means to be one of the strongest, and Colonnello--whose hobbies include training elite soldiers by shooting them with bazookas and punting them off cliffs--definitely fits the bill. Always a vibrant force, even at the very end he refused to go down without a fight.
Miura Haru - Beautiful Stranger (Madonna) [download]

You're some kind of beautiful stranger

I've had a taste for danger
If I'm smart then I'll run away
But I'm not so I guess I'll stay
Heaven forbid, I'll take my chance on a beautiful stranger
Once upon a time, there was a young middle-school girl who was rescued one day by a handsome mafioso, and together they lived happily ever after. Or at least, that's how it is in Haru's world. She doesn't need to daydream about love at first sight--she's found it.
Sasagawa Kyoko - Hand in My Pocket (Alanis Morissette) [download]
What it all comes down to

And the other one is giving a high five
Kyoko is the kind of sweet, innocent girl ideally suited to be someone's first crush. Always smiling, always friendly, always looking on the bright side no matter what comes her way.
II. Kokuyou Arc

The Kokuyou Arc marks the beginning of a transition for both the series and its characters. Suddenly the fun and games have come to a halt. People are getting hurt. And for the first time, Tsuna finds himself having to stand and fight to protect what he holds dear.
Rokudou Mukuro - The Package (A Perfect Circle) [download]
Eye on what I'm after

Because clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
Deception may come naturally to Mukuro, but for all that he moves in circles, he's surprisingly single-minded when it comes to his actual goals. He knows what he wants and he goes for it.
Lancia - Your Time Has Come (Audioslave) [download]

I've stared straight into the sun
Still, I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come
The strongest man in Northern Italy has seen--and caused--more than his share of death, and it's taken a toll on him. Thanks to Tsuna, he has a chance to live again, but it's a second chance most will never have, and he will never forget.
III. Varia Arc

The Varia Arc is plain and simply a good old-fashioned tournament arc, and everything that comes with that. Everyone has their moment in the sun, everyone has their chance to fight. And one by one, they'll see who is the strongest.
XANXUS - King Nothing (Metallica) [download]
And it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name
From childhood, Xanxus was taught that Vongola was his birthright, and he didn't take too kindly to finding out all of it was a lie. To him, the anger is justified, and the position of Tenth Boss is something he won't be denied, no matter the cost.
Superbi Squalo - In the Belly of a Shark (Gallows) [download]
So here I lie
In the belly of a shark
So fucking cold and so fucking dark
The obvious references aside, as a ruthless predator of a swordsman who thrives on blood and being the strongest, Squalo is pretty well suited to a song like this.
Belphegor - You Know My Name (Chris Cornell) [download]

You can't deny the prize; it may never fulfill you

The coldest blood runs through my veins
The Prince is pretty single-minded when it comes to combat, a genius killer who delights in the thrill of it. He never seems to doubt that he'll win--and most of the time he's right.
Mammon - Head Like a Hole (Nine Inch Nails) [download]

God money, nail me up against the wall
God money don't want everything; he wants it all
Of all the Arcobaleno, Viper has struggled the most against the curse that binds them. He's the type that refuses to give up control of his own destiny; he keeps his pacifier wrapped in chains, and he hoards money so that he'll always have power. The rest can do as they like, but he won't give in so easily.
Chrome Dokuro - All Around Me (Flyleaf) [download]

Mukuro is always with Chrome and Chrome is always with Mukuro. Because of him, she has another chance at life, and she will never again be alone.
IV. Future Arc

Her lover, her fellow Arcobaleno; Lal's lost more than most to the Millefiore, and she's not immune to the grief. Still, she fights on, even when there doesn't seem to be much left worth fighting for.
Byakuran - The Trickster (Radiohead) [download]

Escaped from the zoo
The perfect child facsimile is
Talking out the world
On the surface, Byakuran is all smiles. Underneath, he's ruthless, the cool architect of what is essentially a genocide. Even though we still haven't learned about his true motivations, one thing is certain--he's not to be trusted.
Irie Shouichi - No More Sorrow (Linkin Park) [download]
No, no more sorrow
I've paid for your mistakes
Your time is borrowed
Your time has come to be replaced
While we don't yet know exactly what Shouichi's grudge against the Vongola is, we know it's big, and we know it's serious. He's bringing about their demise now, and in his eyes it's totally justified.
V. Vongola

To walk with the mighty
The new generation of the Vongola family is still coming into its own, but already they are a force to be reckoned with. Anything is possible; odds are meaningless. "Things that can't be translated into numbers... that's where their strength lies."
These days won't last forever... but while they do, it'll be a wild ride.
