Happy first day of Spring, everyone!

May the god of ducks smile upon you all. (No, that is not a shameless plug for Tournament of Spring. This is a shameless plug for Tournament of Spring. |D ...yeah, okay, sorry.)

1. Okay, apparently I wasn't getting birthday notifications, so before I forget again, Happy Extremely Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gameazel, [livejournal.com profile] ever_free, and [livejournal.com profile] theprerogative! And also [livejournal.com profile] melissa_42, though I think I already wished you well, but I didn't do it in a post, and I feel like I ought to, so. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ALL and I'm sorry I'm so ridiculously late. XD

2. So what with Wednesday's chapter of KHR revealing the epic spoiler (I'll say that part again, SPOILER--as in, if you haven't read that chapter yet, you might want to skip this next bit XD) that Gokudera's mom didn't die in a "car accident" after all, but lost her life to a MYSTERIOUS ILLNESS, I suppose it was inevitable that I'd find myself pondering this sooner or later. The thing is, the end of the Future arc also had me thinking a lot about the box animals (just because Amano nearly gave me a freaking heart attack by originally saying they'd have to leave them behind), and so it was only a matter of time before some weird part of my mind tried connecting the two. And these are the thoughts that occurred:

  1. I sure hope whatever diseased Gokudera's mom died from wasn't genetic.
  2. You know, I wonder what wave type she was.
  3. I wonder if she had multiple wave energies as well, since supposedly that kind of thing runs in families, but Bianchi couldn't do it.
  4. --hoshit, I wonder if that's connected to the illness. Since wave energy is basically life energy and all. I wonder if having multiple energies depletes your chakra that much faster or anything like that.
  5. You know, considering all that, I wonder if having a box animal that pops up at will and runs around for hours on end can possibly be at all healthy for the owner of said box animal.
  6. But wait, Uri does eat to replenish his (HER???) energy, and normal box animals don't do that, so that's gotta help some. And also he (SHE???) is almost always in his cute, tiny form, as opposed to her huge and awesomely powerful form, so that's gotta conserve a lot of energy too.
  7. STILL, THOUGH. Why did I even think this, now I'm gonna be all worried for no reason. D:
  8. ...who am I kidding, this is way too big a stretch of logic for even Amano to ever go there.

And yet, for better or worse, the plot bunny has now been planted in my head. I'm sorry, Dera, I think my headcanon is just trying to compensate for the recent lack of angst. XD

3. Okay, so a week ago a huge nor'easter pretty much just slammed into my slate, and the winds were insane. We're talking 50+ miles per hour, which, while not enough to classify the storm as a hurricane, was still enough to do plenty of damage (especially in places like where I live, where there are a crapload of trees everywhere). So basically a ton of trees got knocked down, and everything's been kind of a mess for the past few days.

But since the storm the weather's been absolutely gorgeous, and today it was so gorgeous that, given that it was the first day of Spring and all, we decided to go to the park. So we get there, and there are pretty much fallen trees everywhere you look, and also a fair number that are also leaning and/or partially uprooted. So a bunch of tree guys with trucks were there clearing everything out. And there were two leaning trees in particular just by the edge of the playground that they wanted to cut down before they fell and hurt someone.

At this point, I should mention that baby sis was there and was in fact the main reason we were at the playground to begin with, because if you have a four-year-old and you don't take her out to the playground on a day like this, you are just a horrible, mean person who hates joy and laughter. And she was really excited, but when we got there we discovered to our dismay that there were frigging gnats swarming around everywhere, and crawling around on a lot of the playground fixtures. And my sister, well, she hates bugs. So she was kind of timidly trying to play, but kept getting scared off.

But the one thing that didn't have bugs on it was the tire swing, and that immediately caught baby sis's eye. So we waited for a bit, but there were a lot of kids hogging it, so eventually baby sis would drift away and try to play on something else, and then drift back again. She was very patient, and I have to give her credit, because she was clearly not having the funnest of times. But eventually, her patience finally paid off, and she finally got the swing all to herself. Meanwhile, the tree guys had finally started to get to work. I should now mention that the corner that the two trees resided in just happened to be the same corner where the tire swing was. One of the big trucks was parked less than a dozen feet away. So there I am, pushing baby sis around in circles, and from where I'm standing I have an excellent view of the tree-massacre that is shortly about to take place. There's a guy perched high above us in a tree-trimming truck, just waiting to do his thing.

Meanwhile, another little kid about baby sis's age is sitting nearby with his mom, watching the tree guys with an expression of dawning horror. I'm kind of watching this in bemusement, when suddenly, with what can only be described as a burst of fierce heroism, he breaks away from his mommy's grip and comes running up to my sister, who is still spinning around in the swing. And as I frantically pull her to a stop (so she doesn't hit the poor kid XD), he looks her in the eye and says, in the most urgent little voice I have ever heard: "LOOK OUT! THAT TREE IS GONNA FALL ON YOU!!!"

And as I start cracking up (I couldn't help it XD), my sis looks up, and at that exact moment, the guy in the tree-trimming truck revs up his chainsaw, his maniacal outline framed along with the tree branches in the sun. And my poor sis just FREAKS THE HELL OUT and starts scrambling to get off the swing, while her would-be knight in shining armor sprints back to the safety of his mother (who is also cracking up XD), and even though the tree really was nowhere near the swing (they had caution tape wrapped around the area we were supposed to stay clear of, and we were fine), that was pretty much the end of our outing in the park, because like hell if I could get that kid to calm down again. It probably didn't help that it took me like five minute to stop laughing, sob. XDDDD

SO THAT WAS MY DAY, and wow that turned out to be more paragraphs than I thought. But I'm too lazy to go back and edit it all, so there you go.

because if you have a four-year-old and you don't take her out to the playground on a day like this, you are just a horrible, mean person who hates joy and laughter.

This is SO true. Also you got me in a coughing fit while laughing at:

"the guy in the tree-trimming truck revs up his chainsaw, his maniacal outline framed along with the tree branches in the sun."

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was seriously like something out of a horror movie for just a split second. I can understand why baby sis got scared. XD

[identity profile] caddles.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Little kids are so amusing! I wish my sister was at that funny stage, and not at the damnit-i-want-to-kick-you-in-the-kneecaps stage. ):

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, never a dull moment with them. And lol, she's already old enough to have occasional moments of dammit-argh-why-are-you-being-a-brat, but I'm the type of person who's just topped by kids in general anyway, so. XD

[identity profile] cleartempest.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
...I love your nerdy theories.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW, your little sister seems like a really sweet kid XD I mean I used to volunteer at this day care and some kids push other kids off swings when they want to go on it .__. anyways, your park account made me lol x3

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, it's so embarrassing, the stuff I think about. XD WHY DOES MY FANGIRL MODE NOT COME WITH AN OFF BUTTON, DAMN IT.

SHE IS PRETTY SWEET, though I am obviously BIASED LIKE A BIASED THING, lol. And I actually used to volunteer at a daycare center too ages ago, and I know what you mean. XDD

[identity profile] chibikaya.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
AWW WHAT A CUTE KID EXPERIENCE! AND WHAT A SIGHT THE TREE-GUY MUST'VE BEEN TO BOTH OF THEM!

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
HE WAS PRETTY FUCKING TERRIFYING. Here's a pic of him in all his glory, albeit without the chainsaw (my camera batter died before I could get chainsaw pics, alas). But you can use your imagination to fill in the rest. XD

[identity profile] chibikaya.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
I LOL'D! THE BACKLIGHT MAKES HIM LOOK ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS!

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
DOESN'T IT? IT'S SO DRAMATIC. XD

[identity profile] gameazel.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh thanks!

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope you had a good one. ♥

I have no life right now, but I have to comment anyway

[identity profile] nilly-chan.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all: your sister (and her knight in shining armour) is adorable.

Second: I can't say I liked this little twist in Gokudera's family history. Especially considering the fact that to me, Gokupapa has seemed like a jerkoff, what with letting Bianchi poision her little brother constantly for years without doing anything about it. So it kind off seems like a cheap "he's not really a bad guy after all!" thing. But then again, I'm pretty cynical. (But she did die in a car crash, but maybe the sicknes made her accidentally drive off the road?)

And IF she turned down his advances because she was sick, then why the hell did she only get to see her son three times a year? Considering the fact that Gokudera was three when she died (which is something that has bothered me since I first read it) then how the hell could he be sitting all prefectly like that and playing the piano with her? Not to mention his speech! HE WAS THREE. Most kids that age don't do stuff like that, right? Heck, I don't even remember age three! /rant. Then again, I could fail children, I suppose.

... And now I'm gonna go back to stuying for my exams. Two down, two to go.

Re: I have no life right now, but I have to comment anyway

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
SHE IS. ALSO HILARIOUS.

Yeah, it doesn't all seem to add up, does it? Although part of it can be explained by the fact that some of these details (like the part where she only got to see him three times a year, and possibly the details of the car accident) are based on hearsay, and clearly the servants Gokudera overheard are not the most reliable of sources. It wouldn't be the first time gossip turned out to based on complete bullshit. XD

The way I see it, there are three ways to look at it. The first is to give Gokudera's father the benefit of the doubt completely and assume that everything Gokudera's always hated him for turned out to be misinterpreted and/or just plain untrue. He really did love Gokudera's mother, he wanted to marry her but she wouldn't let him, and if she did only visit a few times a year, it was because she knew she didn't have long, and didn't want to get too attached to her son (and didn't want him to get attached to her either). As for the poisonings, maybe Bianchi inherited her weird poisoning genes from him and so he was never bothered by her cooking, which might have led him to believe that Hayato wasn't actually being poisoned and was just overreacting as kids are wont to do. Maybe he was just that oblivious. Who knows.

Or we could go in the complete opposite direction and assume that he really was a jerk, and the story Bianchi told Dera was just something to make him feel better, and maybe the letters were forged or something. Or maybe he really did love her but Bianchi's mother was jealous and made him kill her when she found out about the affair. So he didn't murder her just to be a dick, but he still basically killed her in cold blood.

Or lastly, we can just assume the truth is somewhere in between. He really did love Gokudera's mother and she really was sick, and the car accident really was an accident, or never even happened at all. But maybe the grief from losing her caused him to resent Gokudera because he was a reminder of what he'd lost (he does look remarkably like his mother, after all), and so he turned a blind eye to Bianchi's antics and to the fact that his son was obviously unhappy growing up. This to me seems the most likely explanation. And this is why I really, really want to see the two of them interact at some point (especially now that Gokudera knows the truth), because it would really help to clarify things. Because even though Bianchi's explanation answered a lot of questions, it definitely raised a few as well.

As for Gokudera's remarkable maturity at age three, playing the piano and speaking so coherently and the fact that he even has memories from that long ago, I always just chalked it up to his being a prodigy. We know he's a genius, after all, so even at that young age, he was just a smarty mcsmartypants, I assume. :P

lol what is this ridiculously long comment. Sorry for rambling. XD Anyway, good luck on the rest of your exams!

Yeah, gossip, that is true. But I still find it weird that Reborn would be relying on gossip that turns out to be complete bullshit, I mean... it's Reborn.

And I obviously didn't read the part about the car crash very well, Bianchi even says that she died before the crash. Oh well, I rushed through it!

Probably number three, at least that's what I'm hoping. Because frankly, number one doesn't really make sense. Even if he was immune to her cooking, he should still be able to see that Gokudera was frikkin' miserable. And number two seems a bit off, I mean, I don't think Bianchi would do that, even if she loves her brother since it could cause trouble should he meet his father again when he returns home.

Sure, I've thought about that as well but... still. HE WAS THREE. His brain shouldn't even have finished developing! D:

I'm probably worse, and less coherent, and a lot more mean sounding due to stress. Lol, sorry.

Re: I have no life right now, but I have to comment anyway

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Reborn usually seems to know what's what. If nothing else, you would think that Bianchi would have told him the truth. Maybe she didn't find out herself until later (that is, maybe TYE!Bianchi isn't aware of any of this yet). Or maybe Reborn did know, but also knew that Gokudera didn't know, and so he didn't consider the truth relevant, since the point was to help Tsuna understand Gokudera better. But I guess it's not too far-fetched for him to have only heard the "car accident" version of the story; even he's gotta have his limits when it comes to knowledge that utterly doesn't concern him in any way, after all.

The way Bianchi told it was confusing, though. "Her disease had killed her before she fell from that cliff." So wait, a dead person was driving that car? Or she died enroute and her car slid off the road? Or was there ever a car accident to begin with? Maybe the gossipers just made it all up.

Option #3 is where I'm leaning as well. Which is fine by me, because it means there's still a little bit of angst left to deal with. I must have my Gokudera angst. XD

I dunno, my youngest brother was really articulate as a toddler. And really smart; he even memorized all the U.S. state capitals. YOU WOULD FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE IF YOU EVER MET HIM NOW (he's still smart and all but also a complete dumbass; your average teenager, basically), but it is true. And there are tons of geniuses out there with similar stories; just google "child prodigies" and you'll find articles like this featuring kids that are/were both awesome and pretty terrifying.

Heh, we can be tired incoherent rambling buddies, then. XD

Re: I have no life right now, but I have to comment anyway

[identity profile] nilly-chan.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually a pretty good theory. Reborn told the truth to Tsuna and Yamamoto the way Gokudera knows it. The only thing that changes truth is perspective, isn't it? If you believe something, you wojn't be lying even if it turns out not to be true, right? ... Does that even make sense? At all?

She must have died while driving and therefore crashed through the railing and "died"... if the accident existed in the first place.

Yeah, what would Gokudera be without the angst, huh? Gokudera must have angst, it's part of his character. Btw, am I the only one who's noticed that Gokudera hasn't smoked once during the whole TYL-arc? I can't remember seeing him a cigarette ONCE while in the future...

Hah, shows me what I know about toddlers/children in general: nothing~~! Alright, Gokudera being a genius was smart and played the piano. Good for him. (But still, memories from age three? Is that possible?)

Yay. XD

Re: I have no life right now, but I have to comment anyway

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it seems like the kind of thing Reborn would do. Very Obi-Wan Kenobi. "What I told you was true... from a certain point of view." XD

Only thing is, if she had died and crashed, that would be pretty much impossible to confirm. How the hell would they be able to tell?

IAWTC. Take away the angst and what's left? Well, the bitching, fanboying, and nerdiness, I suppose. XD But still, it'd be like lobotomizing his history; it's a huge part of why he is who he is. If it all went away overnight that would just be weird. Nah, he still smokes. Just not as often. Which is definitely a step in the right direction.

I have extremely vague memories from when I was three, but I'm not sure how much of it is real and how much of it is made up from looking at photo albums and stuff. But it's possible, I think. I've always heard that children can't form lasting memories until the age of two, but after that I can buy it.

Heh.

I'M FREE! FREEEEEE!

[identity profile] nilly-chan.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He's cool like that. :P

IDK, maybe a coroner could tell? *shrug*

THIS. His history made him volatile and gave him trust issues (but it couldn't take away his inner dork) and who would he be without it? Well, not Gokudera, that's for sure. Twice in battle, and one time when I think it looks more like a toothpick than a cigarette. But okay. xD

I have no memories from age three (then again, my memory sucks XD). So I fail children. That's okay. I'm not getting any right now anyway. XP
