RALLY TO RESTORE SANITY

O.O?????!! Wait...what is going on?

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
As a sort of parody response to Glenn Beck's recent Restoring Honor Rally, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are hosting gatherings in Washington DC on 10/30/10. As Jon puts it, "Ours is a rally for the people who've been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families and jobs (or are looking for jobs) -- not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority. If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence... we couldn't. That's sort of the point."

The awesome thing is that the whole thing started as a result of an offhand comment someone made on Reddit but then sparked into this giant movement that ultimately resulted in this. It's awesome, and I'm really, really excited. :D

I didn't think this would actually catch on, let alone have Jon involved. So excited.

Yeah, same here. It still feels a little unreal to me that it all came together so fast. People on the Internet can get things done sometimes! Holy shit I love the world a little right now.

HOLY SHIT I WANT TO GO SO SO SO FUCKING BAD BUT IT WOULD COST ME SO MUCH MONEY I DO NOT HAVE AND SHIT I JUST WANT TO SEE THIS AND MAKE OBSCENE COMMENTS AND BE A GENERAL NUISANCE AND MAYBE DRESS UP. IDEK MAN, I JUST WANT THIS SO HARD.

It's times like these I'm really glad I live in Jersey (for once, it pays off! XD). It'll be about a five-hour drive, and I have no idea what I'll do about parking, but at least the cost will be way less than if I had to fly down.

I am considering bringing a sign that says "WE'RE NOT THAT MAD, I GUESS; WE CAN PROBABLY TAKE IT FOR A LITTLE LONGER."

Why do I have be poor and live in Illinois? *cry*

But for srs, this looks fabulous. :D Have fun and take lots of pictures!

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, so many people are in this situation; it makes me wish this thing could go on tour or something.

But I will definitely take tons of pics! Man, I'm so excited. :D

LOL, WHAT IS THIS???

Sorry, not going, it's kind.... far... from where I live.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN IN AGES, IS WHAT.

Yeah, I know D.C.'s not exactly a reasonable travel distance from where most people live (not to mention this is relatively short notice). Alas. XD

[identity profile] betterinorange.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao that's amazing. And I love that I read both of those sites in their voices in my head.

If I lived anywhere near there, I would be sorely tempted to go...

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, me too. Especially Stephen's--so much that when I got to the end and read "Run!!", I totally cracked up.

According to Facebook, 60,000+ people have already made plans to go less than two days after the announcement. It sounds like this is going to be big.

Hitler T-Shirt

Where can I get the "I disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler" shirt?

Re: Hitler T-Shirt

Haha, I couldn't believe it when I Googled it and found that there actually was one. !!

And it's not bad, either. I'd wear that.

[identity profile] circles9.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I WISH I WAS GOING ;;

Now I want to stand across from the next poster-toting protest I see with those signs, for the hell of it. "Let's bring it down a notch. For America."

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
GOT COMPETENCE? The world needs more signs like those, seriously.

this rally is so cool it doesn't need oxygen...it's ANAEROBIC

[identity profile] windgoddess688.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
HELLZ YEAH!!!!!

*goes on expedia......DOT COOOOOOOOOM!*

i am seriously debating it......i don't think you understand how badly I wanna go and will more than gladly spend money on a flight/bum with friends to stay over/find a motel 6.

i will totally be more than happy to raise a "i am not afraid of republicans/tea partiers/etc......BUT I AM AFRAID OF SPIDERS"

*coughcough* oh! just letting you know, apparently there's this Hokkaido Fest at some Mitsuwa Japanese stores and they're coming to the New Jersey store the 23rd of September ----> http://www.mitsuwa.com/event/eevent.php?e=42

idk if you're nearby it, but I figured you might like it :D

oh and I hope those tornadoes weren't nearby you D:

IT'S SO HOT, STEAM LOOKS COLD.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm starting to hear talk of other cities holding satellite rallies on the same day as the main event, so maybe you could make it to one of those? I think there are plans for an L.A. rally in the works.

And thanks for the info on Hokkaido Fest! I am actually pretty near the NJ Mitsuwa; I don't know if I'll be able to go this weekend, but I'll try; it looks like fun. MMM CURRY BUNS. |D

And no, we're all right; to be honest, I wasn't even sure what tornadoes you were talking about at first. XD We live in a pretty safe area, fortunately.
