Mid-week post of randomness plus a meme.

BACK FROM D.C. obviously; thanks to everyone who wished me a good time. It was a lot of fun; aside from the usual monuments/memorials (my fave has to be the World War II Memorial; it was so pretty I could have spent hours just sitting by the fountain), we also checked out the Smithsonian (the Air and Space Museum kicks ass; we got to see the Wright brothers plane) and the National Gallery of Art.

We also went to check out the White House on Saturday night, and while we were wondering aloud whether Bush was back from Beijing yet or not (we hadn't been able to check the news all day), one of the security guards cut in and told us that nope, he was still there, and that on top of that he was scheduled to head to his ranch in Crawford when he returned. To which we responded something like, "...." (We found out later that Bush did end up canceling postponing the Crawford vacation, after spending the entire weekend chilling out at the Olympics. What a dedicated world leader. XD)

ANYWAY, blah blah politics blah. The Olympics have been really awesome so far. Michael Phelps is amazing, holy shit. I was cracking up last night watching the men's 4x200 relay because he gave the U.S. team such a ridiculous lead; it was hilarious watching the world record line try in vain to keep up.

Aaaaand, getting back to fandom stuff, have a meme from [livejournal.com profile] azartti!

1. Comment on this post.
2. I tell you a letter.
3. Think of 5 (or more if you want) book or movie characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

My letter was T, which wasn't too hard. |D

Takeshi Yamamoto (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) - Whee Yamamoto. Best sense of humor EVER, runs into walls, is friends with everyone in the entire world, always sees the positives, kicks ass with swords. Is hot. I adore this baseball nut.

Tsunayoshi Sawada (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) - Such an unlikely hero, and yet he manages to rise to the occasion so naturally in the end. There's just something about him that's so incredibly good-natured that it wins you over like that. I mean, it's no wonder his famiglia is so loyal to him.

Toph (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - Tooooooph. I love Toph. Pretty much everyone loves Toph. She's cute and blind and TOTALLY BADASS. Why WOULDN'T you love her?

Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager) - He was one of my first-ever fandom loves. Wisecracking hot guy with a checkered past trying to redeem himself, omg. I just adored him from the start. He's the reason Voyager was my favorite Trek series (even with its questionable last few seasons).

Takato Matsuda (Digimon Tamers) - One of my favorite characters ever. Just this sweet little kid, kind of quiet, but with such a huge imagination that he actually brings his daydream to life. He's a lot like Tsuna in that he's a really unlikely protagonist at first but gets stronger and braver as time goes on. Honestly, if I somehow had the chance to give a hug to just one character out of every character in the world, I'd probably pick him.

Takezo Kensei (Heroes) - Oh man, even if season 2 of Heroes took way too long to build to that twist (spoilers) making him a villain, it was worth it just because he was a thousand times cooler afterward. I hope we see him again; eventually someone will come along and dig him out, right? This is a comic-book-ish series, after all. XD

Tenel Ka (Star Wars EU) - So back when I was an epic SW geek, the Young Jedi Knights books (bashed as they are) were some of my favorites, and omg Tenel Ka. So awesome. And she and Jacen were one of my first OTPs. I kind of just ignore the newer EU canon these days, because I hate what ended up happening to them.

I was trying to think of a T character I dislike just because the meme didn't specify that I had to like them and this ended up kind of unbalanced in that respect, but. I kind of failed. I like too many characters. XD

Let me know if you want a letter!

Washington D.C. is beautiful. I've been there twice, and I loved it.

Watching the Olympics is really fun; but I was dying last night watching the Women's Gymnastics team... it was really intense and we were doing really well against China until beam/floor. It went downhill after Alicia fell on beam. *sigh* Still a silver isn't anything to complain about.

Lol, sorry. I love watching gymnastics! I'm excited to see the battle for all-around.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Yamamoto is totally my ideal boyfriend, lol. If I could get him away from baseball, that is. :)

And I'll try your meme! :) Gimme a letter!

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the downtown area around the Mall is gorgeous. Some other parts, not so much, but you can say the same for any city.

Oh man, I hear you on the women's gymnastics. I was so excited when one of the Chinese team members fell off the beam and weakened that point advantage that they had, but when Alicia fell that was pretty much it. Still, the Chinese team was amazing, and they totally earned their gold. And like you said, silver ain't bad either.

Haha, same here. He's like the perfect man, seriously; even the fact that he'd be busy all the time with mafia/baseball stuff is cool with me because I like my space anyway. If only I could kidnap him from the manga. XD

As for the meme, how about M?

I want to visit DC again... last time I went was for my 8th grade trip. It wasn't a very educational experience, unfortunately, thanks to some poor planning and scheduling snafus. Alas. I'm glad to hear you had fun! :)

I shall do the meme, if it's all right? Giveth me a letter! :3

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah, unfortunately I can easily see how that kind of thing could mess up a trip there, especially for a big group. Hope you have a better experience the next time you get to go. And thanks!

Hmm, let's go with L!

[identity profile] sandrock.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was just not a good scene. Hehe. I'm going to hold out hope for another time though! :) I hear all sorts of good things about DC, this entry as a case in point, so I have faith that a good visit is possible.

Ooh, L. *goes to write entry*

Washington D.C. is beautiful. I've only been once, for a history trip with my high school, but it was incredibly awesome. Someone broke into the White House with a sledgehammer while we were touring the building; he was politely escorted outside by the very good looking secret service agents :DD

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. This was my second trip; I visited once before when I was about 12. Fortunately all the stuff I liked was still as cool as I remembered. :)

Someone broke into the White House with a sledgehammer while we were touring the building

OMG hilarity. A sledgehammer?! People are nuts. XDD

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'LL BET IT WAS holy shit. |D

[identity profile] o-melody-nelson.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The secret service was really nice about it. If I hadn't just gotten off the bus and maybe had a chance to shower that day, I probably would have flirted with like all of them.

[identity profile] rikasaurus.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow you're lucky. Seeing the white house in person (or in house? idk xD) sounds awesome.

I've only been to DC once to visit some family members And they kinda live in the "slums", so I didn't get to really sight see xD

Also,*COMMENT*

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, to be fair, we couldn't actually get anywhere near the building; we were pretty much just looking at it through the fence and across the massive front lawn. But it was kinda pretty since it was night and it was all lit up.

Ahh, that sucks. Maybe you could catch a bus or something downtown one day if you visit again? It's definitely worth checking out.

YOOOSH! How about J?

[identity profile] abyssed.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've been to DC once, but I don't remember it being that happy on a trip (holocaust museum, town on the verge of being rained on badly due to a hurricane.) x.x What was good, though, was that the one sunny day we did have was very pretty.

I love that you put Yamamoto and Toph in there. They're both so awesome *_* And Takato is soo cute` Even if Tamers wasn't my favorite of the Digimon seasons, I did like him. I would give him a hug anyday. :3

I want a letter now, to see what I come up with. :D

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
We went to the Holocaust Museum too, though I wasn't particularly enthused to go (...people don't usually come out of Holocaust memorials smiling and having fun, you know?). XD It was really good, though, if somber. And yeah, the weather can make all the difference in the mood there; it was just starting to drizzle/rain on us too late on Sunday; thankfully we'd pretty much wrapped things up by then.

Yamamoto and Toph are characters who just kind of define awesome. And oh, Takato... well, I pretty much said it all already, but yeah. <33333

As for a letter, this meme is sponsored by the letter S?
