ITP blah blah blah.

BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP, HAVE SOME MORE THOUGHTS ON THE NEWEST CHAPTER OF KHR.

  • It's hard to even fathom just how much this must suck for Tsuna. First, one of his best friends is brutally attacked, to a degree where even if he recovers, he may never walk again (and may thus suffer a crippling blow to his reliably cheerful personality). Then he's forced to go through with a ceremony which he had previously been adamant against, just so he can catch the culprit. Then his other friend, a person he's known only a short time but already could relate to more than anyone else he's ever met, turns out to be said culprit (or close enough, anyway). And then finally, it's revealed that the reason he attacked Yamamoto to begin with was so that he could get his hands on the Vongola Sin™, which Tsuna never wanted to inherit in the first place. That last one has really got to sting, because it adds a rich element of pointlessness to it all. I mean, if Enma had just up and asked for it, Tsuna would have probably given him the damn thing, or at least tried to get hold of it. "Misunderstanding" is really so grossly inadequate a word here that it's almost painful.

  • This arc is just brilliantly set up. I'm in love with it. When you think about it, Amano really had a big task on her hands coming up with something that could follow on the heels of the Future Arc and not be a) more of the same-old, same-old or b) really lame and underwhelming. And this was all the more difficult because Tsuna is not like most shounen heroes, where his goal of wanting to become the Pirate King/Hokage/WHATEVER provides something to wrap the arc around. Tsuna wants nothing more than to bury his head in the sand and live out a nice, peaceful, boring life, so to get him involved in something, the stakes have to be big enough and personal enough to forcibly drag him out.

So basically this was perfect. What does it take to turn meek little Tsuna into Angry McVengefulpants? In this case, nothing short of having someone he trusted maim one of his best friends to get revenge for some ancient grievance Tsuna never even played any part in. And the way it was all crafted was just beautiful, even though you could see it coming a mile away. That made it even better, because you knew it was coming but it was like a train wreck; you couldn't turn away.

  • Do you want to know just how much I was craving an arc like this? The answer is, this much.

    1. Amano goes down the Aizen/Sasuke route. Basically, in a terrible twist, someone with a highly personal connection to Tsuna betrays him and becomes the next villain, LE GASP.

PROS - It would be totally epic, and we'd have all the angst that comes from a close, personal betrayal along with all the tension that comes with wondering if the betrayer will ultimately be redeemed or not. And it would be just crazy enough to follow on the heels of the insane Future Arc and yet not disappoint.

CONS - It makes no fucking sense. At all. But then again, this is Amano, so you know, if anyone possibly could make it work... >_>

    7. Someone (or a descendant of someone) who has been terribly wronged by the Vongola in the past and still harbors a grudge appears. There.

PROS - I like the idea of Tsuna struggling to deal with the SINS OF THE PAST as the unwilling heir to that history, and wondering what's the right thing to do and so on. Angst, character development, more personal stakes; it has everything I love in an arc.

CONS - ...Hell, I can't think of any. LET'S DO THIS.

:D!!! To be fair, it's easy to predict something when it's part of a long list of predictions that includes every single outcome you can possibly think of. JUST CALL ME MISS CLEO, GUYS.

  • Aside from bizarre forces that make guns hover then explode, it occurs to me that for once, there is nothing stopping Reborn from getting in on the action. He's not banned from intervention or crippled by mysterious plot radiation; his favorite guardian just got maybe-paralyzed and he should be hankering for some payback, dammit.

And speaking of Reborn, way to not go with your gut instincts that proved to be correct all along, man. There was indeed "something strange" about the Shimon family. Like how they all turned out to be vengeful supervillains. Oh well, live and learn.

  • Assuming that the Shimon family gets away for the time being, now would be a really good time for a few of the Vongola family's newest allies to show up. Shou, Spanner, and if there really is a Santa Claus, the Giglio Nero family and TYE!Gamma (PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEASE). Also Kawahira. That fucking guy. Also Gokudera's dad. YOUR SON NEEDS YOU, STOP BEING A DEADBEAT.

  • Still curious as to exactly what type of flame Enma is rocking. The Giegue guys said it wasn't any of the traditional seven, and having gotten a look at Enma's new get-up and also judging by those weird little ice spear things that attacked Ganauche, I'm guessing ice flames. Despite the contradiction, and also the fact that it has nothing to do with the sky unlike the previous flame types, I'm still intrigued by this idea and give it a tentative thumbs-up.

  • But even so, Tsuna's not exactly a lightweight himself these days. He's still got his Vongola ring on steroids that was able to crispy fry the baddest dude in the universe with little to no effort, and he's easily more pissed at the moment than we've ever seen him ever, so Enma had better be powerful as all get-out or this is going to be a really short fight.

  • I just have to point out that if only the Vongola kept more complete records in their attics, none of this would have ever happened. That's what they get for apparently dumping all of their info pending to the Shimon family (which turned out to be PRETTY IMPORTANT, BY GOSH) in the trash. :(

Also, Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] dtn! LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.

About Enma's flames, someone thinks it's a 'negative flame' since it seems upside-down: this would explain why Simon's flames nullify Vongola's ones. And, if it's ice as it seems, it might be connected to the Zero Chiten Toppa copyrighted by Vongola Primo Q_Q

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I really can't make heads or tails of the flame in this shot, but it did appear to be upside-down back when we saw it earlier, so a negative flame theory makes sense. It's weird, though, because when Tsuna goes into Zero Point Breakthrough mode, his flame looks the same as it normally does. I can definitely see it being connected somehow, though.

[identity profile] snapdraw-gone.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's an Ice Snow flame Enma's got, then it might be a Sky flame in disguise like that Gelaro character in one of the KHR games. Other than Primo and Tsuna, he's the only other KHR character whom I know can produce ice from his Dying will (Mukuro and Chrome don't count because their 'ice' are illusions).

Maybe Enma's Dying will (or the whole Shimon's for that matter) work in a similar way: like Tsuna's Zero-point breakthrough. It's a pretty powerful technique and not a lot of people are capable of doing it.

[identity profile] snapdraw-gone.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Pft. My comment and the one above it are just basically saying the same thing. =P (Post was empty while I was typing)

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I hope it's not like in the video game. That doesn't sound too exciting. Fortunately the flames look pretty different, though.

I do like the Zero Point Breakthrough idea. Enma's always seemed to have sort of a :| personality, too, so that would kind of line up with the idea of a negative dying will flame. I kinda hope it doesn't work in the same way, though. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for something more original.

[identity profile] morgrix.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
About Reborn, I thought it was strange for him not to figure out who they were. He already knew there was something weird about them:
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/350/04287.png
Anyway, if he'd figured out there would be no plot and no history anymore ¬¬"

I think Xanxus is still going to show himself and save the day (maybe not this day...). Actually, I'm his fangirl, and I hope he appears soon! XD

I don't think Enma's flame is ice... This: http://www.onemanga.com/Katekyo_Hitman_Reborn/296/11/ looks like ice, but Enma only "tranformed" (er... I want a better word for it) after that, so...

Btw, I love to read your texts!!! *___*

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he really had every opportunity to figure it out, and he's usually sharper than that. He saw Enma's response to Tsuna's ring, looked up their history and knew the family was old and kind of off somehow, and on top of that, the attack on Yamamoto especially should have set off some warning flags. That was suspicious any way you look at it. Yamamoto doesn't drop his guard that easily, and Reborn knows him better than just about anyone; I'm really surprised that Kaoru wasn't number one on his suspect list.

Part of me can't help but wonder if Xanxus wouldn't actually be glad that something went wrong during Tsuna's inheritance. XD But it would be nice to see him.

True, Enma didn't get his full upgrade until he got his hands on the Sin, but he could have been using a powered-down version of it, like in this scene. Though his eyes were also normal until the transformation, so maybe not.

And thank you! <3

[identity profile] felinaofl2.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Reborn really did drop the ball on this one.

I agree, Xanxus needs to show up. This arc is just begging for him to jump in!

[identity profile] ojuzu.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes, yes. This arc really is exactly what I'd been hoping for.

. . . Hoshit. Just had a thought. What if Reborn is connected to the Shimon family somehow? I don't know if that would actually explain anything, but it would be pretty cool.

Exactly. Where the fuck are you, future arc characters? (Oh, and I know this is totally incorrect, but my first thought when I saw Enma And His Magic Hand was HOLY SHIT HE WAS BYAKURAN ALL ALONG.)

Ice flames. Well, we already have the Zero-Point, so I guess that works. --Wait, no! They're hail flames! |D

Hey, yeah. Why don't they have, like, a library of this stuff? Or, say, some digital storage. We're in the twenty-first century, guys! The mafia needs to upgrade! Files in attics = not good enough anymore.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Week after week it's just been one strong chapter after another, and now the first part of it has wrapped up perfectly. I'm a die-hard fan of the Varia Arc and still believe that was pretty much flawless (at least as far as tournament arcs go), but even so, I think the Inheritance Arc is starting to overtake it as my new favorite.

Well, it would explain why he failed so completely at seeing this coming, at least. XD And a lot of Reborn's past is still pretty mysterious, so it could work.

Enma's shiny dragon gauntlet is definitely a touch of Byakuran's style, there. I think when he died, a tiny bit of his soul went to reside in all of the future villains (it would go a long way toward explaining Shitt P, too). HIS LEGACY LIVES ON.

Hail would fit the sky/weather theme...!

I seriously think that might be the only real plot hole in this arc so far aside from Enma's total lack of cell phone awareness. Up until this point, I would have sworn the Vongola kept some kind of mafia pokedex, what with them being so up-to-date on everything happening in the mafia world ever. But all of a sudden this family comes along with a history that goes so far back it even predates Primo, and they know nothing about them? WHAT IS THIS. Get your shit together, Vongola.

[identity profile] ojuzu.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I think the Varia Arc might always be my favourite or maybe that's just because I've been writing about Xanxus, but the Inheritance Arc is definitely gaining a special place in my heart.

(By the way, I'm still confused as to what actually happened with Byakuran. Did killing him in the future disappear him from everywhere ever? Or is young!Byakuran still hanging around somewhere?)

Oooh, what if the Shimon family aren't mafia? What if they're actually . . . (dun dun duuuun) yakuza.

No, really! I don't know if that actually works or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if Vongola only really knew about the Italian mafia and people connected to them. So if the Shimon family were an old, old family from Japan, maybe the only mafia who encountered them were the first-gen Vongola.

(Although this does not explain why Iemitsu had stuff about them in his attic.)

[identity profile] felinaofl2.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I outright squeed when you said Gamma. I adore that man, and sobbed over his & Uni's (TOTALLY BULLSHIT I HATE AMANO FOR IT!!*) deaths, so seeing him and the Giglio Nero again would make me dance and squee until I faint from delight. Plus, it would give Tsuna an opportunity to forge a strong bond for the two families.

I know this is pathetic, but I seriously would love if Amano did, I dunno, mini-arcs or something for the other Vongola bosses. I mean, it'd be really cool seeing a few events from the lives of Secondo to Ottavo! No, I'm not just saying this because Secondo is a sexy badass with a sexy ponytail and needs more screentime...
Besides, maybe then we'd get to learn everyone's names! I'm still hoping Secondo's would be Leone. I'm such an idiot fangirl.

Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that the Vongola's records on the Shimon were accidentally destroyed by Secondo via Rage Flame in his office. Because that'd be hysterically funny to me.

*That is my lingering trauma from the Future Arc. I don't think I'll ever let it go.*

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I will cry if Gamma does not cameo in this arc. He and Aria were already shown in the normal timeline during the Arcobaleno arc in the anime, so we know he's around. SO HE'D BETTER SHOW HIMSELF.

I don't know about all of the other bosses, but I'd definitely like to get some more info on a select few. Daniela (at least then her bizarrely high ranking in the Japanese character poll could be justified), the one that fought with a fork (the Fourth? I can't remember now), and definitely Secondo, because he seems the most important right now. Actually, I'm pretty sure we will get background on him at least before too long, but it'd be nice to learn a little more about some of the later generations too.

It did kind of suck that Gamma and Uni were literally the only people who died in that arc and then actually stayed dead. :| Well, you know, aside from Byakuran.

[identity profile] smilypie.livejournal.com 2010-07-02 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Tsuna, you poor child you. When will you get a break fff

LOL it's true that it was sort of easy to have predicted when there was a lot to pick from, but I think the great part is that it wasn't just a long list. It was a long list of AWESOME. So the fact that *2* of your predictions came true means that this arc is amazing. Which is the truth.

I'd love to see what Irie's up to, considering we've met him before in this time. And Kawahira needs to pop up and exist. And Basil should come in and be useful too. And-- wait, this is completely random but where the hell is Iemitsu? Not only is he an important member of the family, but gracious, your son is going to be the King of the Underground and you're not there to sob into tissue all "THAT'S MAH BOY <8'D"??
Also, Fran.

Hey, ice flames can actually be hail flames, which is part of the sky? I dunno. But the Zero-Point Breakthrough idea (from other comments) would make sense. And it works with the whole "the Vongola and Shimon have been close for a forever" thing if that's supposed to be a special technique not many people know about/can use.

I think the problem with the Vongola and their records is the fear of bad reputation. Maybe I've been reading too much fic, but it's occurred to me that they like keeping bad news very hush-hush. Like the whole Cradle Affair thing. History looks better when you had allies instead of enemies that you stole the Philosopher's Stone Sin from or whatever the hell happened. So I think they were trying to hide things more than they thought it was unimportant.

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS "NEVER", CLEARLY.

Haha, but then again I wasn't about to write down any ideas that I did not personally think were awesome. Because with my luck, one of those would then have come true and we would have ended up with a sucky arc. AND NO ONE WANTS A SUCKY ARC. So it was more of a list of wishful thinking possibilities, and then I happened to get lucky.

Kawahira needs to pop up and exist.

This made me lol so hard. XD YES HE DOES. And now that you mention it, Iemitsu totally should have been there. Maybe he's still trying to maintain his bullshit cover of being a construction worker (HAHA IEMITSU JUST HOW CLUELESS DO YOU THINK YOUR SON REALLY IS). And Basil and Irie and baby!Fran too, definitely. It's not like they need to have lengthy cameos or anything, too; even just a two-second Longchamp-esque cameo would suffice. Just a "HEY, WHAT'S UP" so that we know they're still around. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

I like the hail flames idea, though if spoilers turn out to be true, canon is going in a different direction entirely now. That'll be interesting to see.

Yeah, I do think part of it was probably a "history is written by the victors" type of thing where they covered a lot of it up to make themselves look good. But you'd think that someone would have still been aware of the truth, lest it come around to bite them in the ass (LIKE IT JUST DID). That was definitely a major failure on their part.

[identity profile] dtn.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Aw thanks! I SHALL DO SO OH HO HO HO

Since I'm behind in Reborn (YES! AGAIN! I'M SO FUCKING GOOD) I don't have much to say but a big FUCK YES to Vongola family's newest allies to be showing up for god's sake. GAMMA WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY. And Gokudera's father for sure. Prove to us he's not an ass that we USED to make him be until we learned more of Gokudera's family backstory way too late LOL XD

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
HUZZAH ♥

I mean, it's not like I want this arc to become a confusing mishmash of useless cameos like the end of the Future Arc, but there are a bunch of people who definitely need to at least check in and show us that they're still alive and kicking post-Future Arc. Gamma being near the top of that list. And Gokupapa definitely needs to show up and help advance his son's character development a little more. HE OWES US THAT.

[identity profile] reana-camellia.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Also Gokudera's dad. YOUR SON NEEDS YOU, STOP BEING A DEADBEAT.

I always envy wonder at the fact that he can afford to rent a studio in Japan, considering the property is extremely expensive compared to everywhere else. Besides, Gokudera does not seem to work, and spend his time stalking his beloved Jyuudaime instead.
I am sure his dad helps him pay his rent

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to have some headcanon musings that Gokudera was blackmailing his dad for money by threatening to spill the details of his affair. XDD THEN CANON KIND OF RIPPED THE FLOOR OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THAT ONE. Whoops.

But given that Gokudera didn't know until very recently that Padre was actually not a complete douchebag, I don't know if it makes that much sense for Gokupapa to have been covering his living expenses the entire time he's been in Japan (unless he was doing it anonymously, but even then, I think Gokudera's too paranoid to have let someone he didn't know pay his bills. We know that he hates owing anyone favors). So my current theory is that he's been on the Vongola payroll since the start of the series. The end of Bakudan Bambino strongly implies that the Ninth hired him before Reborn actually invited him to Japan, so it kinda makes sense.

[identity profile] reana-camellia.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
i haven't read Bakudan Bambino, but your theory actually make sense

[identity profile] merryrainbow.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I really really really really really really really really really really really hope Shimon's flames are like.. EARTH type flames or like, Celtic ruins black magic or something! That would be so sailormoon, which would be awesome~<3333

Also: Has anyone noticed that Enma's flame looks like a penis? (http://www.onemanga.com/Katekyo_Hitman_Reborn/296/16-17/)
It's like a whole new meaning to being a dickhead! *badum-tss!*

Also Also: SUDDENLY. Enma loses any trace of Shota. Fucking look at him!
... I'm sorry Tsuna.

THOU SHALT NEVER TOP.

Speaking of Tsuna: OH GOD. UNF. THE BAMF. TSUNA HAS ACCUIRED THE BAMF, GUYS. *can now die happy*

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I really really really really really really really really really really really hope Shimon's flames are like.. EARTH type flames

YOU, MADAM, ARE PSYCHIC. I TIP MY HAT TO YOU. Though it kind of reminds me of X/1999 more than Sailor Moon. Heaven vs. Earth. This could get interesting.

...tbh, I can still only barely differentiate between Enma's flame and his hair, so I can't quite see it. XD

It never occured to me that Tsuna might top even before Enma transformed. Haha, poor guy.

AND YEAH, TSUNA IS DEFINITELY LOOKING PRETTY GAR IN THAT LAST PANEL. SHIT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN, SON.

[identity profile] reana-camellia.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heaven vs. Earth

sorry, it actually reminds me of a green tea brand (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2466/3836670942_289a049b8e.jpg) *laugh* xDDD

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I DO BELIEVE THAT TEA IS PROOF THAT TSUNA/ENMA IS CANON.

[identity profile] reana-camellia.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
just curious, is this brand of tea exist in your country? eh, you live in USA right? xD

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, well, I do live in the U.S., but I grew up in an area with a large Asian community, so we have a lot of stores around here that sell things that probably aren't normally available. I think I have seen it before, but it's not the kind of thing you can find in a regular supermarket here. (Though we have lots of other green tea brands.)

[identity profile] merryrainbow.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It reminds me of so many other fandoms, I hope next chap. is going to be EPIC BATTLE OF AWESOME AND SPECTACULAR!

LOOK CLOSELY MAN, HE HAS A PENIS ON HIS HEAD! A FLAMING PENIS!

A fangirl can hope for the main guy to top, neh? We still have Basil for that?

AMANO, WHERE'S BASIL, YOU HO'?!

OH SNAP, SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN LIKE ME ON 16CM STILETTOS ON A ROCKY COUNTRY-ROAD AFTER SIX SHOTS OF SHERRIDANS, SON!

[identity profile] nilly-chan.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It could still very well be frikkin' snow flame. Because snow and ice go hand in hand. Lame.

Enma looks really wonky in that last panel, really wonky. XD Am I a bad person for hoping that it turns out that Gokudera has all seven original flames + this new flame? Does hoping for that make me ridiculous?

And... wait a minute. how the hell did Tsuna start the forehead flame? He didn't swallow any pills... huuuuh. Has he finally grown up? ;___;

[identity profile] makeste.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
APPARENTLY IT IS A [SPOILER] FLAME. PRETTY COOL, ACTUALLY.

IT IS NEVER RIDICULOUS TO WANT GOKUDERA TO BE EVEN MORE BADASS. Though considering the new info about the Shimon family's flames, Gokudera acquiring those might just cross the line into Mary Sue territory, so maybe he should just stick to the seven he has (assuming he does eventually acquire sky+mist, which I can always hope).

Pretty sure he just jumped into his dying will state naturally via the power of EMOTIONS~. It's not unheard of; Ryohei supposedly runs around in dying will mode all the damn time, so it makes sense that Tsuna's extreme ARRRRGH RAGE could be capable of flipping on the dying will lightswitch in his head. At any rate, it was badass.

[identity profile] nilly-chan.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S A SPOILER FLAME? THAT'S KIND OF AWESOME. XD

MAYBE IT ISN'T. Yeah, it would be a bit over the top to be sure (damnit, him having those two flames too is part of my headcanon!) but ey, it's GOKUDERA! He's had enough fail throughout this series to NEVER fall into the Mary-Sue area! XD

He's never done it purely through ~EMOTIONS~ before. Oh, they grow up so fast! ;___; OH RYOHEI! Hahaha, but then again, Ryohei is a special case. xD
