ITP: FLASHBACK.

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME, I hope you know, and I hope good times were had.And third, I was looking back at some of the early KHR chapters the other day (because the new arc was filling me with nostalgia), and it occurred to me that by getting in on the reviewing game late, I hadn't really given these chapters their due. So I've decided that before I get to any more of the new chapters, I'm going to go back and review all of the old ones first. IT WILL BE FUN, WE CAN REVISIT THE DAILY LIFE ARC AND MAKE FUN OF AMANO'S WACKY OLD DRAWING STYLE AND STUFF.
1. Okay, this first chapter has like fifty pages so I don't even know how I'm going to cover it all in ten points, but I guess I'll just try to stick with the essentials. Having said that, our very first glimpse of Reborn has to be worth a mention. It's too bad the color version of this page isn't actually posted up anywhere (I think...?), because THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING. And also one of the only scenes of Italy we ever get in like the entire manga. Unless you count the CEDEF raid in the Varia arc, and the Varia battle in the Future arc. Which I suppose we should. So never mind. XD
I can't help but notice that aside from Tsuna's generation and some dashing exceptions like Shamal, everyone else in the mafia appears to be butt-ugly.
2. Haha, and here's our first introduction to Tsuna. SOMEHOW IT SEEMS APPROPRIATE. Come on, Tsuna, my sister could have caught that. Blindfolded.
And within just a few pages, we already know everything there is to know about him--namely, that he's a Failure with a capital F. COULD IT BE THAT HE IS DESTINED FOR GREATNESS?
P.S. lol Kyoko looks really weird in the old drawing style. AND IS THAT SERIOUSLY HANA'S FACE omg brb dying of lulz. She looks like a Pokemon.
3. Ah, here we go. This is the stuff of legends. A meeting of two great men. And it begins with Reborn kicking Tsuna in the face. So nothing has changed since then, really.
I'm going to start a Tsuna abuse count here, if no one minds. So let's see, there was the basketball, and then the face-kicking, and then this armbar and tie-strangling here, so I think the count's up to four now? Again, it appears that nothing has changed.
4. "I was assigned to train you to become a mafia boss. They didn't specifically say how, so idk, should I just shoot you or something?" Tsuna's pants must surely be soiled by now. Or else he just thinks he's tripping. THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME. Little does he know that in a year or so, all this will seem completely normal to him. Maybe even a bit mundane.
Abuse count's up to five, btw.
5. And thus we were introduced to the dying will bullet for the first time. Does this also count as abuse? I'm going to say yes, because he got shot in the face, so really. Come on, now.
I really love how his biggest regret is not talking to the girl he kinda likes, incidentally. It's such a dorky, teenagery regret to have. Suits him perfectly. XD
Aaaand, ladies and gentlemen, OUR MAIN CHARACTER. Totally the best main character ever. So dignified. |D
6. I just had to post this page because it made me crack up. XDDDD I almost wish that guy had become a recurring character like the melon guy in Avatar. ALAS.
Anyway, so Tsuna eventually found Kyoko and creeped her the fuck out like the secret pervert he is. Not quite as planned. But at least it came from the heart. ;_; I wonder what will happen next!
7. Man, terrible things happened to all of the Ninth's sons. XD Though Enrico kinda had it coming, though. Guy was a dick. WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF HE'D SURVIVED. >_>
8. And the plot(?) continues to move forward, with Tsuna abruptly being challenged to a duel by Mochida-sempai, the world's most forgotten character even more than Longchamp! MAIN CHARACTER VERSUS MISOGYNISTIC JACKASS; I wonder who will win! The suspense is killing me! D:
P.S. wow this guy was the original dick, wasn't he? BEFORE MUKURO, BEFORE XANXUS, BEFORE BYAKURAN, THERE WAS... MOCHIDA.
9. And eight.
And ain't no vengeance like a mafia boss vengeance. Eeep. Makes me think Squalo had better watch himself, because if he ever crosses Tsuna, I'm not sure he'd be able to live with the consequences.
10. Anyway, so somehow by mounting a guy in his boxer shorts and ripping his hair out, Tsuna managed to win the respect and admiration of his peers, as well as that of the girl of his dreams. IT'S A HAPPY ENDING FOR EVERYONE.
Or... is it? D: D: D:
So that was the illustrious first chapter of Reborn that started it all. I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THIS EPISODE OF RETROSPECTIVE KHR THEATRE. See you all next week! 8D

It was so unexpected, too. I was busy looking at Kyoko, and then I suddenly took a closer look at Hana next to her and nearly did a spittake. Except I wasn't drinking anything, but if I HAD, then it would have been disastrous.

I find it hilarious (and kinda sad D8) that Hana was so unimportant then that she didn't even have a detailed face fff I'm sure Amano was thinking, "Ahh it's the love interests best friend, no one's gonna pay attention to her anyway." D=
3- I love that "a meeting of two great men" is between a "baby" *cough* and a middle school kid. This series is nuts.
Shit, man, the abuse count's gonna be up to 20+ before the volumes done! Btw, are you gonna continue after the DL arc and count the shounen battle fights as abuse or stop when it gets serious?
5- This is why as much as Kyoko doesn't do much, if she didn't exist, Tsuna would be dead.
I miss regular Dying Will mode Tsuna ;__; I always keep hoping that Reborn will randomly shoot him again and he'll be all REBOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN!! and it'll be all >8DDD! and yeah. ffffffff

7- Ffff Viz translated Matsumo's death as "He now sleeps with the fishes." There needs to be more lines like that in this series.
8- Ahh Mochida. It's still hilarious that he was voiced by Mukuro's VA. I think that decided his fate right there. Or Mukuro's. Or something.
He was the first final boss before we even knew there would be final bosses. The "Get Kyoko's Friendship Arc" or simply the "Mochida Arc" was the very first, and shortest arc. Trufax.
10- Tsuna will never get a fully happy ending will he? DDD8

Though I might still do more of these old-school reviews anyway, since this one was pretty fun.1. Lol. BUT THERE COULD BE PRETTY THUGS! Maybe. Possibly. XD I bet at least one of Byakuran's universes is filled to brimming with attractive bullies.
2. I bet she was just going to be a random throwaway character at first, and then Amano later thought better of it and decided she could play around and give her a no-nonsense personality and a terrible phobia of children. Heh.
3. THOSE ARE OUR PROTAGONISTS, FOR BETTER OR WORSE. XD And I bet it's somewhere in the 50s, even. Tsuna is the most abused main character in history.
I probably wouldn't count the battles, unless it was something really bad like when Byakuran choked him out, because otherwise the count would just skyrocket.5. Haha, true. If it weren't for her, he would have been shot by a baby and that would be the end of that. Very tragic.
And I hope we get at least one more regular Dying Will Tsuna before the manga ends (maybe he could fall back on it because the pills aren't working or something?), because it's always hilarious.
7. It does have a Godfather-ish flavor to it, doesn't it? I liked that too.
8. I didn't even know he was voiced by Mukuro, lol. Yet another reason why I'll never be able to take old Chuckles seriously. :| AND YES, THE MOCHIDA ARC WAS PRETTY DARN EPIC, IF I MAY SAY SO.

Haha, I don't know why I always feel compelled to limit things to 10 bullet points (or in some cases, spread them out over ten), but it does come in handy when a chapter is as long as this one. ANYWAY. I bet Xanxus is the one who plotted to kill off the rest of the Ninths sons. As we already know, he is a complete and utter power - hungry butt munch.
ALSO. REBORN HAD SUCH A CLASSIC DERPY FACE WHEN HE JUST MAGICLLY APPEARS IN TSUNA'S ROOM. FORGET DINO'S DERPY FACE. REBORN, YOU GET THE AWARD. I am actually sort of missing daily life arc now, even though it was my least favorite part in the whole series. ; uuu; why do you do this to meeeeeee?!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Xanxus; it had to be someone, after all, and he's the one who stood to gain the most. With four sons (counting Xanxus) gunning for the Vongola throne, you know there was almost certainly some attempted fratricide going on.
And THAT IS THE MAGIC OF AMANO'S OLD ART STYLE. It's merely the first of many, many derpy faces to come. I SHOULD GO AND REVIEW ANOTHER CHAPTER TO SEE IF I CAN MAKE PEOPLE FEEL MORE NOSTALGIC FOR THIS BLACK SHEEP OF AN ARC. XD
