Back from Lake George!

It was awesome, even though it rained on the last day (we just packed up and headed to an indoor arcade to ride bumper cars and play laser tag instead). BUT ANYWAY, I AM BACK NOW, and in a post-ish mood. So have a post! With some memes and stuff.

2. Why oh whyyyy did I decide to finally catch up with the One Piece manga (I had stopped a few years ago shortly before the end of Thriller Bark, so I had a blast reading through the Impel Down and Marineford arcs) right when Oda is about to take a one-month break to prep for a timeskip? SOB SOB CRY. At least the timeskip in question sounds fucking awesome.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

ZUKO. Oh, Zuko. Where to start with this kid? Well, first of all, he is an idiot; let us establish that here and now. He is, however, a very endearing idiot, as well as a very determined, caring, well-meaning, and astonishingly brave idiot. And he spent so much time throughout the first two-and-a-half seasons teeter-tottering between making the right and wrong decisions, and even though he KEPT MAKING THE WRONG ONES!!, I couldn't help but keep on rooting for him. It was clear that eventually he was going to realize whose side he was really meant to be on, and that once he did, there was an extremely high probability that he was going to be INCREDIBLY FUCKING AWESOME. And he was! BY GOSH, HE WAS.

Death Note

Yeah, Light is my favorite. In fact, I don't mind admitting that despite the fact that he was not only misguided but clearly insane, I was rooting for him the whole while. (Sorry, L. XD) The thing is, he's fascinating. He's so brilliant and yet so profoundly arrogant! He screws himself over right from the start with his need to prove to L that he's superior to him, and yet he's so fucking smart that despite his numerous screw-ups, he manages to pull out save after save in the tensest situations imaginable. And the plan he eventually concocts to take out L once and for all is one of the most elaborate and ingenious schemes I've ever read. Basically, he's my favorite because it's so much fun to read about him; there's so much suspense and it's never boring. ~~At least for the first half of the series.~~

Durarara!!

I think this is actually the first time I've posted about DRRR!! in this journal, lol. But anyway, my favorite character is Kida, no contest. I LOVE THE DRRR!! CAST, especially the main trio and Celty (and Shinra! SHINRA WHY SO ADORABLE), but Kida won me over right from the start. He's kind of like Yamamoto on steroids; he's so charming and extroverted and EVERYONE IS MY FRIEND!!... except that unlike Yamamoto, he also has a hidden dark side not too far from the surface, where he's secretly burying all this trauma and guilt and insecurity. And he does an admirable job of trying to deal with it all himself, and doing his best to protect his friends from all of that as well (and I love him all the more for that), but at the end of the day he's still just a kid, and needless to say I spent a lot of time during the last third of the series battling the need to just REACH THROUGH THE SCREEN and take him home with me and feed him cookies and cuddle him. T_T

Fullmetal Alchemist

I love the entire FMA cast as well, but Edward is far and away my favorite. (HAHA AND SPEAKING OF CHARACTERS WHO HAVE PILES OF ANGST THAT THEY ATTEMPT TO STRUGGLE WITH ALL ON THEIR OWN...) Anyway, this probably isn't too much of a surprise, as he's very similar to Gokudera--tsundere, genius, glutton-for-punishment, etc. ~~They have even been known to look alike!~~ And you know, it's impossible not to like Ed. For all of his angry bitchery, he's a great kid. The kind you want to give headpats and noogies to. Maybe I should just kidnap him along with Kida.

Yeah, I'm all conflicted because on the one hand, OMG AWESOME TIMESKIP ON THE HORIZON AND I CANNOT WAIT!, but on the other hand, I really cannot wait. XD I'm going to have to write numbers on my calendar and start obsessively crossing them off every day or something.

Yamamoto, hooray!

A) My OTP 8059! Oh Yamamoto, I hope you never stop invading Gokudera's personal space and passive-aggressively manipulating him into gradually loosening up inch by painstaking inch.

B) The runner up A few days ago, I would have said 8027, but then the other day I made the mistake of speculating too much on the possibility of a Prison Break Arc in the near future and what that might entail, and I was suddenly struck by the idea of Chrome escaping the Shimon family's clutches and illusioning up Yamamoto a brand new spinal cord so they could go and rescue the others together, and I haven't been able to shake it since. And man, all of a sudden I ship the hell out of them. And I sort of want this to happen.

C) The anti-ship YAMA/KAORU. He pretty much literally stabbed him in the back, so uh. Go to hell, Kaoru.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I feel quite guilty about this, especially given recent events in the manga, but I kind of have a giant weakness for Yamamoto angst. I love to see the boy suffer, okay. Because he has this incredible reserve of inner strength and fortitude that we so rarely see him tap because he almost never needs to. Because he almost never loses his cool. But when he does, it's like he briefly transforms into an entirely different person, and I am so fascinated by that transformation that some part of me actually gets really excited when terrible things happen to him like his future dad dying or his spine getting impaled. I'M SORRY... but not sorry enough, apparently. XD

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why You know, I've always wondered what his relationship with Genkishi would have ended up being like had Genkishi not been rickrolled by Byakuran. I think they could have pulled off a gay swordsman rivalry akin to Yamamoto's relationship with Squalo if things hadn't been cut short like that. As one of the two people who actually liked Genkishi, it made me a little sad. :(

You hit the nail on the head with D. I was probably as excited as I was distraught when Yamamoto was attacked.

Zuko is why I stopped channel-flipping and started to watch Airbender. He was just so immature and flaily and fail and adorkable. And then he was awesome. I miss him :'(

OMG SHINRA IS TOO ADORABLE, I THINK I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM. But Kida is also awesome and win and I love him and his dramatics. And this has nothing to do with the fact that he is voiced by Miyano Mamoru. Nothing at all >_>

Second meme: um...Tsuna from KHR.

I miss Zuko too. I'm looking forward to the new Avatar series, but I am going to miss the old gang. :( AND YES SHINRA IS ADORABLE AND MADE OF WIN, and I forgot to mention it before but I adore Kida's seiyuu too. He's perfect.

For the first meme, how about KHR, DRRR!!, Naruto, and Bleach? And as for the second...

A) My OTP 2700. First it was adorable and failish, and then it became angsty and tragic... and still pretty failish. I'm still rooting for those crazy kids. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MISUNDERSTANDINGS, BUT I THINK THEY CAN GET PAST THEM. And Tsuna can teach Enma how to send text messages afterwards, and everything will be better again somehow! /DENIALLL

B) The runner up 2796, or whatever Kyoko's number is (I always forget). It has the same adorable and failish qualities as Tsuna/Enma, and as a bonus it's like the only pairing in the series that is actually canon (one-sidedly, at least)! XD

C) The anti-ship Ohhh, there are lots, actually. Fandom tends to pair Tsuna up with a lot of the characters he's previously Jesused, disregarding the fact that he's still generally terrified of these people. Hibari, Xanxus, Mukuro, and so on. I can't picture him ever being comfortable around them, let alone getting it on with them. ;;

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I don't think HDW!Tsuna is overrated, exactly, but I am much more fond of normal, boring, ordinary Tsuna. I secretly hope he never quite loses that derpy, fail side of him. I do love how awesome he's been in the last few chapters and how much he's matured, to the point where it's not hard at all to picture him as a real mafia boss sometime in the near future. But despite all that, my favorite moment of him in this arc is still his talk with the Ninth, when he turned down the role of Tenth boss. I love how determined he is to be normal, to the point of denial, even. And I know that his reluctance to accept his place in the mafia actually frustrates a lot of people in the fandom. But it's an essential part of who he is, I think. If he let go of all of that, he wouldn't be Tsuna anymore.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Uh, since this question is kind of redundant in light of my answer to C), I'm just going to skip it. XD

Kida's seiyuu voices all my favorite characters. I don't know if I love him because he voices them, or if I love them because it's his voice. Either way, I love that man.

A) Yes, please, SOMEONE teach Enma how to text. Or e-mail. Email works wonders. USE TECHNOLOGY.

B) Ah, I think it's 85? Or 87? 96 is Chrome. I don't know, there are always numbers I'm like WTF to.

D) So much THIS. I would be very disappointed in him if he didn't retain a bit of his spaz and his desire for a normal life. It grounds him and, in my opinion, that's what makes him worthy of being a boss.

I'm an L fan, but I COMPLETELY agree with you on Light. It's why I enjoy writing for him more. His mental degeneration intrigues me, and it's fun to stop and think about just how messed up he really was.

B) The runner up I don't have one, actually. I don't ship her with Reborn because it skeeves me out, and I've never really gotten any chemistry vibes from her and any of the other characters, Haru and Kyoko aside. Either they're too terrified of her or SHE'S TOO GOOD FOR THEM.

C) The anti-ship Shamal. GO AWAY SHAMAL, THE THING WITH HER AND REBORN IS PEDO ENOUGH AS IT IS.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I want more of her in the manga. I don't know how unpopular that opinion actually is, but since there's a good chunk of fandom that likes to ignore the female characters altogether, I'm gonna go ahead and say it. I want her to tag team with Gokudera and kick some ass. I want her to go to Shimon Island and poison the entire Shimon family as revenge for them sending her brother to mafia jail (possibly this is a bit premature of me, but hey). I want backstory on her and Reborn because my brain does not want to just accept that their relationship was never meant as a serious plot thing, but more as a throwaway joke during an era when crack reigned supreme. I WANT HER AND GOKUDERA TO HAVE A LONG HEART TO HEART ABOUT DAD. I just want her to do anything, dammit.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why ...maybe it was a mistake to do a character meme that relied so heavily on shipping. XD UMMMMMM... *hides*

James-Sawyer from Lost for you. (he, Jack and Desmond are ~~mine~~ my favorites! along with Locke)

I love Al too. He's sort of the Yamamoto to Ed's Gokudera (why yes, I do use KHR characters to make analogies in all of my other fandoms); it must have been so hard for him, but he's so strong throughout everything. It boggles the mind, really. I would have literally gone insane. But he not only kept it together himself, he kept it together for his brother. AL YOU ARE A SAINT.

AND YAY, SAWYER. I LOVE YOU. SO MUCH. (He is hands down my favorite in LOST.)

A) My OTP Sawyer/Juliet. I still don't understand how they managed to sell it so thoroughly in so little time. But man did I buy it. And then of course the finale of season 5 had to come along and devastate me to my very core. Thankfully, the series finale a year later more than made up for it... although if anything, I was crying even more. XD

B) The runner up Sawyer/Kate. I did eventually convert to Jate by the end, but I very much enjoyed Sawyer and Kate's flirty phase, and was rooting for them for a good long while. Kate tended to bring out the best in him, even though the reverse was unfortunately not true.

C) The anti-ship Sayid. Yeah, he and Sawyer did manage to get past the whole hating each other thing by the end of the series, but that's pretty much all I can say for that pairing. It's one of those pairings where I have no clue why it has a fandom (but it does, sure enough). Or did, anyway. Idk.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character Everyone loves Sawyer now, but I will have you know that I loved him from the start! I even loved him even when he was being a complete dick. Even during that one episode where he and Charlie teamed up to maim Sun and steal the guns and everything. I was just like, "Oh, Sawyer, you dick," and that was it. So I don't know if that counts as an unpopular fannish opinion or not, but it's all I can come up with. XD

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Jack. I did love their rivalbromance (and there's a Brokeback Mountain parody floating around somewhere on the Internet that I love with all my heart and soul), but there's no denying that Sawyer loves the ladies.

For me it's hard to say which one is my favorite in Lost. I love so many plp in that show that I can can go all day long talking about it.

My OTP is Sawyer/Juliet as well!!!!! *___* When she died I couldn't stop crying. And the last episode I can't say, because I was crying from the start.

Well, I'm a Kate hater, so I don't ship her with anyone. I don't like her, she is very selfish, and there are some rare moments when I wasn't annoyed by her. Like this one:

I could never EVER ship Sawyer with Sayid!!! hahaha, but it's funny!

I also LOVE Sawyer first season! (I loved him till the end!!!) I was watching the first season with a friend some weeks ago, and I didn't remember how sexy he was!!! OMG, I loved him even more.

I'll confess to you that my "never-gonna-happen-but-I-wish-it-would" ship is Sawyer x Jack. I love it when they are acting together, and last season, when they really worked together, was beautiful! *_*

Oh Zuko XD&hearts I love how much he grew from the beginning of the series to the end.
I love how intense, determined and smart Light was. (I also couldn't take him seriously the whole time, lol) I love how much thought he put into everything, which is what made it so fun to read.
Kida's so 8D about life, it's so adorable<3 He was actually getting on my nerves a lot in the second season D= but you've reminded me of why he was so awesome 8D

Yeah, Zuko had one hell of an awesome character arc. And it's okay, no one can take Light 100% seriously. XD AND KIDA, YES. I love him so much. HE GOT A LITTLE STUPID IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SERIES, but given the circumstances it was more than understandable. And yeah, Ed was an awesome protagonist.

GANAUCHE! HAHA, FUCK YEAH.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I sincerely do love his name. I love the whole theme of the Nonos being named after deserts, and adding the III at the end for no reason at all was a stroke of genius on Amano's part. BRILLIANT.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Timoteo. I know it's a Vongola requirement for every guardian of a given generation to be completely gay for his or her boss, but for some reason, Ganauche seems to be an exception to this rule. For that matter, so do most of the other Nonos. SORRY, OLD MAN.

Zuko had possibly the best character arc in the series.
I thought I was gonna choke Kida XD But he was dealing with some tough crap, that's true.

Yay, Gokudera, LET'S DO THIS.

A) My OTP 8059~ I won't essay on it yet again, but suffice to say that if I can't teleport myself into the series to tease Gokudera and drape on him and cheer him up when he's in a homicidal mood and give him pep talks when he's feeling down, etc, I can at least be glad there's already a character in the series who will do all of those things for me. |D Yamamoto is the best boyfriend ever, seriously.

B) The runner up 5986. I love his and Haru's relationship of bitching at each other while still sharing a mutual bond of Tsuna adoration.

C) The anti-ship 1859. WHY DOES EVERYONE PAIR HIBARI UP WITH EVERYBODY. Idk, I just don't understand this one at all. Amusing rescuing-each-other-and-trading-debts-back-and-forth antics aside, there's almost no basis for a relationship here at all. In fact, I'm fairly certain these two would like nothing more than to avoid each other entirely. XD

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character ...truth be told, I actually wouldn't be too put out even if he never won another major battle ever. I mean, if he did, that would be awesome, but his hilarious win/loss record doesn't actually bug me all that much. It's just another thing that makes him Gokudera.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Shitt P.* He's too fascinated/awed by her for the idea of romance to have ever entered his head, I think. Plus he'd probably be worried about offending the other U.M.A.s if he accidentally disrespected her. Also there was that whole Shimon betrayal thing too, so. XD

*It should be noted that despite the fact I don't think they'd ever happen, I do still ship them.

Shizuo and Simon are awesome. I kinda feel bad that I'm not as big of a Shizuo fan as most people seem to be. ;; But he does kick ass.

HARU~

A) My OTP 5986. It'll take a bit of character development on both their parts, but as far as mafia husbands go, Haru could definitely do worse. And their personalities are very similar, and even though their canon interactions have been minimal I love it whenever they do interact, and blah blah I've rambled about this before, so I'll stop now.

B) The runner up Haru/Kyoko. Hey, the mafia seemingly turns everyone else gay, and I adore the BFF relationship these two have, and they're so loving and supportive of each other and I also don't doubt that if push came to shove they'd probably kill some bitches to save one another as well. As a bonus, if they got married I bet Ryohei would cry at their wedding.

C) The anti-ship Bel/Haru. I know that omake story thing with the two of them was supposed to be cute and funny, but I found the idea more creepy than anything else. Bel's too much of a psychopath. :/

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character Sometimes I wish she'd ended up being one of Tsuna's guardians. Amano could have decided to have seven instead of six, or she could have taken Lambo's place or one of the others', even (I won't go ahead and say Hibari, because fandom would kill me... but. Well). Because then we would have gotten much more opportunities for female badassery, and much more Haru as well, and both of these are very good things.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why OH THIS QUESTION, I don't even know. ...Shouichi? SORRY, SHOU, I JUST CAN'T PICTURE HARU EVER FALLING HEAD OVER HEELS FOR YOU, YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO DEAL I GUESS?

(I won't go ahead and say Hibari, because fandom would kill me... but. Well)

Well, i would really love to see Haru replacing Lambo (sorry, Lambo fans). But then Chrome's position as the smurfette will be threatened.
If Hibari is not the guardian, he can be one of Vongola's opponent. The idea intrigues me... imagine the ensuing angst for Yamamoto and Ryouhei *A*

I am not at all surprised that you love Kida because omg he is Yamamoto on steroids, how did I not make that connection before everything is clear now aaaaaah. But of course with the necessary traumatic past.

I so want a DRRR/KHR crossover where the Vongola decide to investigate the mysterious "Dollar" clan that's cropped up in Ikebukuro ("If there's a potentially powerful rival family forming in a nearby city, we should learn as much about them as possible, Tsuna") and they go and meet the DRRR gang, and Hibari battles it out with Shizuo, and Tsuna and Mikado bond over being failbosses, and Yamamoto and Kida become sparkly bestest best buddies. I'm sad that someone hasn't already written a fic like this.

Heh, Zuko. You know a character is awesome when so many people like him even in spite of his epic fail. XD

A) My OTP Zutara. I LIKE THEM, OKAY, for all the obnoxious stereotypical reasons; the fire/water contrast; the unintentionally hilarious way that he stole her necklace that one time and tried to act like he was all LOOK AT ME I AM SO DAMN EVIL AND I LEARNED ALL MY VILLAIN LINES FROM THE SAME BAD 80S CARTOONS ENMA WATCHES, and then subsequently got his ass kicked by her and the necklace stolen back; their INCREDIBLY strained and awkward relationship once he finally stopped being a giant doofus and joined the good guys; the way their friendship finally did start to get somewhere after their "magical life-changing journey" or however Toph put it... etc. etc. etc. Even though they were obviously not canon I shipped them anyway.

B) The runner up Zuko/Sokka. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BROMANCE.

C) The anti-ship Zuko/Aang. Never mind that their destinies are epically entwined and that Zuko is kind of gay for him anyway; AANG IS TWELVE and they both have girlfriends and AANG IS TWELVE. Pass.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I don't mind that he was an idiot and betrayed his uncle and temporarily rejoined his sister and dad at the end of season 2. I can understand why he did it, and it all worked out in the end, so hey, that's what's important.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Jet. Admit it, fandom, you just like this pairing because of the hotness factor. XD

;_; I am praying the month off thing is just someone, like, epically trolling the fandom. Because what am I supposed to do without my One Piece???? The horror!

The only reason I'm not uber-worried about the time-skip itself is because Oda has never once let us down this entire manga. Alas, it's confirmed. XD ONE MONTH. *CRIES* But at least we'll get to see 2YL!Strawhats at the end of it. I'm pretty excited; like you, I've got faith that whatever Oda does, it will turn out to be awesome.

And you have NO IDEA how hard it was to choose between Luffy and Sanji for this meme. In fact, I think I'll do them both. XD But Sanji is my favorite, so he'll go first.

A) My OTP ZoSan. I have such a giant weakness for rivals who hate each other on the surface but are also ~~not-so~~ secretly total bros who've got each other's backs even if they will NEVER EVER ADMIT IT. So I've been a ZoSan fan pretty much since the characters were introduced. And I have no regrets. (As a sweet bonus, the doujinshi for this pairing often tends to be both incredibly hot AND pleasantly IC, which is great because finding IC doujinshi is usually like finding a needle in a haystack of semes and ukes.)

B) The runner up Sanji/Nami. Well, this is the one that's actually sort of kind of one-sidedly canon, after all.

C) The anti-ship You know, I've never really sat down and asked myself, "Who don't I ship Sanji with?" That's an interesting question; I'll have to get back to you on that. XD There are a lot of characters, obviously, but no one I can think of who stands out in particular.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character I'm always seeing speculation in fandom as to why he keeps his eye hidden all the time, but I've never particularly cared myself. It's like, "...he keeps it hidden because that's how Oda did his character design." I don't really need any reason beyond that.

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Luffy. All of the Strawhats are gay for their captain, of course, but I don't think any of them are actually in love with him. He's their captain. They're his crew. And it's just the kind of friendship that One Piece portrays so beautifully and satisfyingly that I don't often feel much of a need to ship anyone. NAKAMA FUCK YEAH.

Yayyy, another Sanji fan. XD I love him to death. And he and Zoro are totally hilarious and my favorite pair in the series, although, like you said, for whatever reason this is one of those mangas where I don't actually ship anyone at all. (Or else I consider it all a giant OT9. ;p) Um, that said, I still totally read the fic for it. Got any doujin recs? :D

Pick between Hibari, Edward (FMA), or Shizuo (Drrr)

I'll start with Hibari and will probably get to the other two sometime in the next few days.

A) My OTP 3318. I swear I am blind to some things, because this pairing never even occurred to me until

dame_batsie and a few others made a case for it, and then after that I started seeing hints for it all over the damn place and was just like, "HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS BEFORE?" Ryohei just doesn't seem to have the same instinctive fear of Hibari that the rest of the Vongola kids do; either because they're closer in age or just because of his personality, who knows. But I love how he's always going the extra mile to try and be friendly with Hibari DESPITE THE FACT THAT HIS EFFORTS ARE SHUNNED EVERY TIME. And after that one Primo Arc episode where Ryohei started following him around everywhere and they teamed up to stop Skull's blimp attack, that was pretty much it. I was sold.

B) The runner up Maybe 8018. Ever since this scene, I've thought it was kinda hot. That, and I ship Yamamoto with everyone in the universe ever.

C) The anti-ship 6918. I like rival pairings as much as the next person, but only when said rivals actually hold mutual respect for each other and are maybe even friends underneath all their bickering. And that is very much not the case here. THEY FUCKING HATE EACH OTHER'S GUTS. And Hibari would dearly love to pound Mukuro into a bloody pulp, and Mukuro doesn't see Hibari as anything more than an amusing-if-slightly-stupid toy. And that's just not my thing, idk. I can't get into it.

D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character While I do like him (and think he is highly amusing), I don't find him all that interesting as a character. I've made a substantial effort to figure out what it is about him that intrigues so many people, actually; I even sat down one time and tried to essay my way into understanding him. But it didn't work. XD There's just too little that we actually know about him. I really, really want Amano to give him a backstory one of these days, but I have a sneaking suspicion that she doesn't really care, that she mostly just keeps him around for the lulz and the fanservice. >_>

E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why Dino. The thing about Dino is that he presents a Catch 22 for someone like Hibari; in order to be badass, he has to have his subordinates hanging out nearby. If not, then he turns into just another useless herbivore. In other words, Dino's ability to keep Hibari interested is dependent upon his being around a crowd. ...Yeah. Either way, Kyoya loses. XD

D) Hahahah! It is not really an unpopular opinion, even some of his hardcore fans think he doesn't have much backstory and depth ^^;
But that in a way good thing, because the fans can fill the gaps with their own headcanon. Part of my love for Hibari come from his doujinshis' personality. Especially Peeco's *___*
